I am getting a strong P25 conventional repeater here in Greensboro, NC on 152.540. It sounds like law enforcement traffic in a medium-sized town. I heard references to several areas that sound like Henry County, VA, but i'm not sure.

The closest licenses on that frequency that I see are in southwest virginia, too far to be heard so clearly here.

Anyone have any ideas who this might be and what NAC they are using?

Probably is Henry Co.

The correct frequency is 152.5375 mhz. and most likely it is Henry Co., VA. It has been reported that they can operate encrypted when desired. I do not know the NAC. I do not live within reception range.

It is 152.540 for sure, not 152.5375. I have both in my BCD996T and I get no traffic on 152.5375 when scanning both. The audio is too good for it to be on adjacent channel too. I do think that it is either Martinsville PD or Henry County Sheriff though.

Re:

Ill keep an ear on 152.540 too, I dont think theres been any activity at the STARS site (WQFA919 ) from what I could tell last weekend when I was hunting just past the repeaters on Brumley Mtn.

152.520 MHz through 152.555 MHz only brought back the above license for the entire state of VA, and nothing in TN,NC, or SC

Now the state of GA, has one license KRS645 for the entire frequency range with 15K0F2D and 16K0F3E emission types listed, according to the tropo forecasts
TUE- http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tr_map/archive/3eam.jpg
WED- http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tr_map/archive/4eam.jpg
(links expire soon) see parent website for archive

its entirely possible....
KRS645 PLANTERS RURAL TELEPHONE COOPERATIVE, INC.
City: NEWINGTON, GA

Or finally.. as i've learned from experience, they're not licensed correctly or federal.

152.54 makes sense. The adjacent channel would actually be 152.5325, which is used by STARS in Petersburg and NOVA. The other adjacent channel, 152.5475 is used by STARS also.

I have been monitoring 152.540 P25 with a NAC of 500 ,it for sure the right frequency. I am not sure about the county but the guy picked up the NAC code was dead on. It does not sound like its a trunked frequency.

Its the Henry County VA Sheriffs Office. To my knowledge Martinsville PD does not have P25 capability, their primary is 155.730 PL of 114.8 but there repeater does not run full power, so I do not know if you can hear them in Greensboro. Henry County went P25 later part of 2009. Halifax County VA uses 155.730 also PL of 110.9 for fire and rescue primary. I live adjacent to Henry County, about five miles east of the county line, and Halifax County is stronger at my location than Martinsville PD. Martinsville PD was Ericsson system with 3 voted recievers and the new Henry County system is Moto. Not sure if Martinsville plans an upgrade from GE/Ericsson/Ma-Com to Moto or not.

Hope this helps.

Check Henry County in the database. The updated frequencies answer the question - it is exactly what ATF1224 thought.

Its the Henry County Sheriffs Office, not Martinsville PD. Thanks to who ever updated the database.
