Just tonight, I discovered a law enforcement agency using 154.070 (82.5). I thought I heard them identify themselves as "Cherokee" but Cherokee County isn't licensed on that frequency. Just now heard them run a tag for a person who lives in Canton. This is strange. Anybody able to confirm this?

I believe that the "mysteriousness" is in the clues. Does your radio tune only to 25.5 khz, or will it tune freq.s down to 12.25? What I am asking is, Can you tune into 154.0625 Mhz, as opposed to 154.070? You may find that you were listening (off freq.) to Cherokee Co. Sherriff"s "East Dispatch" channel. That is recorded in the database under Cherokee Co. Try and tune in to 154.0625 to tell if the info is even more clear to you, because it should be.

That's what you get for using a 396XT:)) They've had that frequency for a couple of years now Mike.

Hey, thanks guys. Learn something everyday if you're lucky and have good friends to keep you straight. Larry, you're absolutely right. I was listening to it on my BC396XT but I was also able to hear it another way first. I kept noticing on my Yaesu FT7800 mobile (which I have in my study as a base station) that the signal meter kept showing a transmission under MORROW FIRE DISPATCH (154.070). Since I wasn't aware of another FD close to Atlanta other than City of Jasper that has that freq - and I've never heard them - I opened the squelch and began hearing traffic stops. So evidently my mobile radio also picks up narrowband freqs like this.

Thanks guys for the quick feedback. There's still a great deal of public safety VHF within 125 miles of Atlanta so the next 2-3 years is going to be interesting as agencies comply with the required shift to narrowband.
