I am in Chicago and have been listening to 154.430 while scanning around, and checked the listings here on RR. I came up with a whole list of people on that freq. I am hearing the dispatch side only but not the responding units. Any idea who this is?

Could be any of dozens of suburban and exurban FD's. From your location it could also be further out, such as WI or MI.

If it is using a PL of 127.3 then it would be one of the SE Lake County FD's such as Lake Forest, Libertyville or Countryside.

If it uses a PL of 91.5 then it would be one of the south suburban towns like Chicago Ridge or Evergreen Park.

If there is no PL tone then it could be Waukesha WI, they only do the radio dispatch here, the ops are on a trunked system.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that is one of the "Merci" channels. Possibly 3 or 4, mainly used for ambulance or air-medics to talk to the hospital. Around here it is "Merci 1" which is what Airlife and Arch use when coming to Carle Hospital.

The MERCI channels are 155.340 ("MERCI 340"), 155.400 ("MERCI 400"), 155.280 ("MERCI 280") and occasionally 155.160 ("MERCI 160").

While other areas call them MERCI 1, 2, 3 etc., 154.430 is not one of the MERCI channels, it is basically a fire dispatch channel in many areas.

All that said, it well could be what is used for med choppers in some areas, but just not as a MERCI Channel.
