154.725- and Hardin Co.

Has anyone ever heard anything on this freq.? I caught a small conversation, but unable to make heads or tails of it. I looked in the database, could be one of many. Some showing an E, for encryption. I suspect Hardin co., which brings me to my second question. Several weeks ago while just scanning the VHF-HI public safety freqs. , I heard the usual Hardin CO. dispatcher come across and tell the officer that she was switching to secure, then the VHF freq. (I believe it was 159.150), went static----just like you turned the squelch way down. I minute later different officer same freq. normal conversation. I thought maybe this was just me, but I have now heard this happen 5-6 times. Each time "going secure", then static. Is it possible, or does anyone know if they are using some kind of encryption there? I was using my Pro-96, but had the CT mode on each time------not the APCO-25 mode----so i dont know if it was a digital signal or not. Sorry to be long winded, but this has me baffled! Mike

"going secure" is Encrypted.

Most likely Securenet. To avoid hearing it, use tone decoder. At least where I live there is no CTCSS with "secure" transmissions.

Jason, on the 96 when I do a search, I either set it to CT, DC, or FM. In the FM mode, it automatically detects if its a digital signal. I just thought maybe they were using a VHF APCO 25 type signal. Normally I scan like that to try and catch anything, but of course these times when was searching i didnt have it set that way. I have never really paid too much attention, do you know of any small counties having encrypted freqs. around here? Mike
