155.745 Nws?

On Sunday September 18 I heard the NWS station in Valley/Omaha give warnings and storm information out to varouis counties. I also heard what sounded like a telephone conversation with other states which included S. Dakota, Alaska, Kansas, Iowa, California, and many others. Has anyone else heard similar communications on this frequency?

That is NAWAS, Nation Warning System. It runs across the nation and it is being rebroadcasted from Sarpy County on that freq and in Lincoln on UHF. I don't remember Lincoln's freq but it is in the Lancaster County page here.

That explains why the signal was weak in nothern Douglas county by NWS in Valley.

I was listing to it on Sunday night on 162.550 for Norkfolk & Surround areas . But nothing in the 155MHz range , sorry!

That is not NAWAS. That is NOAA Weather Radio, a continuous broadcast of forecasts / observations / warnings / etc. Not related...

For the most part, NAWAS is a telephone based communication system. However there are several radio links to the NAWAS system. In Nebraska I am only aware of 3 frequencies used:

155.745 - Sarpy County
453.650 - Lancaster County
156.000 - Hall County

If anyone knows of others please post.

Nationwide tests occur twice daily at approximately 11:00am and 9:00pm. It is interesting to hear all the states check in.

Boy, does that bring back memories! While in high school, I had a job at the NWS office when it was still in operation in Norfolk. We were required to do a weekly "check-in".
Still remember listening to all the check-ins from stations all over the country. Never really heard anything exciting over it except for an occasional all points bulletin when police were looking for a fugitive. Usually it was PD from New York or L.A.

I never knew that the transmissions were being re-broadcast on the public service band. Would be great to listen to again. I'm now in Phoenix, AZ so if anyone knows a frequency out here, I'd sure appreciate a "pass-along".
