155.955 [192.8] Fire disp. nr Charlottesville

In the counties surrounding Charlottesville, 155.955 is generally a secondary channel for fire/rescue, but I am hearing dispatching on this frequency with a CTCSS of 192.8. Very strong in Madison & Greene Counties, but getting weaker as I head back towards Orange and Louisa.

Any idea who this is? I haven't recently heard fire dispatch for either Greene or Madison. Orange is still on 155.055 [192.8].

Allen, now that you mention it, it does seem like it has been a while since I have heard Greene or Madison dispatch a fire call. Checking the FCC database, it appears that Greene county was issued a license (WPYJ289) in August 2003 that includes this frequency.

I will have to monitor this freq/CSQ combination from my house ... I sometimes will pick up Greene SO on my King & Queen FD freq, so I might be able to get GFD also.

I think this may be Essex County Fire Dispatch.

While I do often pick up Essex S4/S3 in the Richmond area, I think that it would have to be a pretty good ducting day for the signal to make it to Charlottesville. Also, N4JRI mentions a noticable drop in the signal strength when he drives from one area to another, so this would usually indicate that he's close to the transmitter.

Essex uses a tone of 103.5. Definitely not my user.

Mystery solved

It's Greene County. In a 6:30p test, the dispatcher stated that he was on "authorized frequencies of 39.18 and 154.235" No mention of 155.955.

I heard the same thing simulcast on 154.235 [203.5] but nothing heard on 39.18, 155.925, or 155.295.

They are toning out calls on this freq, and I don't always hear the parallel thing on 154.235. I wonder if it's an issue of geographic coverage...
