Fired up the old pro 39 today and heard an old Henrico SAF freq. being used by some police agency.....not sure who yet...

thats strange, it's listed as 156.21750. How come I never heard them when I used to listen to Henrico SAF years ago......? When they key up again I'll make sure and hit the search up button.
156.2175 is probably the narrowband frequency, almost all 4 decimal place high band frequencies are. You would still pick them up on 156.21, which is good because most old scanners don't let you put 4 decimal places in. If it is new and 156.21 isn't narrowband they wouldn't have been issued a license for 156.21 as the FCC won't allow anything but narrowband eventually. Or some crap like that. I don't really get the steps and narrowband vs wideband yet. Mostly due to a lack of effort though..someday I'll figure it out.

does anybody else still monitor the old freqs. to see if anything is happening on them? (i.e. Hanover, Henrico, Rich., Ches. )
I believe 156.2100 [100.0] is used by the jail in Norfolk. PL tones are very helpful in identifying users on a shared frequency.

I believe motorhead is right. New Kent has very minimal traffic and so does this freq. Also it is definitely a police frq. I just have to wait for another transmission to come through to see if I can lock on it at 156.....
New Kent's VHF-High system (with all of those narrowband freq's) only went on-line about 18 months ago. I'd have to agree with Motorhead that it's NK.
Powhatan Fire uses this same frequency (PL 118.8) as a fireground channel, FYI.

Unfortunately, an agency local to me uses this same freq as a simplex surveillance freq with open pl. Kinda makes it tough for those of us trying to monitor the surv ops while NOT catching NKSO.
And yes, back when this was the freq for SAF Henrico, NKSO was vhf low.

yeah, me too mike f...... what do they use now? The encrypted tac and street crimes tg's on Henrico?
gates and PTAC 1, and they have a tacs few of thier own

Gates??? PTAC1??? not familiar with these....clue me in with more details if you can..... 8)
i think PTAC1 is ecrypted. its pretty much radio to radio, it doesnt hit the tower. ( as far as i've been told) Gates is mobile to mobile as well and it is used to open some of the gates in the county. sometimes they are used for training so that it cant be heard unless you are nearby. these are all on different zones on the officers xts3000s.
FD also has the Gates channel, it's used to open the entrances to gated communities by radio frequency. Not used for anything else on the FD side.

All of the what was called SAF or street crimes units are encrypted. Which of course is what I'd rather listen to. And TAC Tg's too are ENC.
