I live in West Caldwell and I was told a while back that the local municipal frequency is the same as the Caldwell FD dispatch channel (158.94, PL 203.5), but so far I'm not sure this is the case. I'm hearing other rescue squads and what I presume to be Roseland FD on the 141.3 PL, but nothing I can clearly find as West Caldwell municipal usage (snow plows, road repair, etc).

Their trucks all have high-band 1/4 wave NMO-mount antennas on them (of the length one would expect for mid-150 MHz), but I'm at a loss here. I've been listening off and on for a few weeks in carrier squelch mode with PL scan and so far I've only identified 141.3 and 203.5 on this frequency.

So two questions: Are there any other PLs on 158.94 in this part of the county, and second, anyone know where West Caldwell's municipal vehicles are (come to think of it, Fairfield's too, as I'm right on the town border)?

Thanks in advance.

Caldwell Roseland Essex fells and west Caldwell all share the same FD dispatch channel i monitor them regularly along with all other west Essex fire depts. you might be hearing one of the other depts on that freq, but i have listened to it and have not heard any ems on it. so double check your scanner for the right channel and PL's. but i cant help you with the DPW garages.

158.940

This frequency is widely used for both DPW & EMS. Alot of activity on it from Bergen county. I routinely pick up Ridgewood EMS. In Essex, it is only used by the towns you mentioned. It is the fire dispatch channel and the DPW channel as well. The W Caldwell trucks are located in the DPW yard behind the Police station on Clinton road. The Fairfield trucks are on low band 45.440 I think , and they to are in DPW yard behind Police station on Fairfield rd. West Caldwell uses 141.3 pl for almost everything except fire operations. Roseland uses the same pl. This frequency was at one time also used by Livingston and East Hanover as well for their fire dispatch.I hope this helps.

I also live in West Caldwell and listen to 158.940 on a regular basis and have heard not
only West Caldwell, but Caldwell, and Essex Fells dpw's during the winter months. Also
Fairfield is on low band 45.44...
