Today when in and around Flagstaff I heard some sort of dispatch operation on 160.500, PL 151.4. I could only hear the base and it is possible it was a control station on a repeater input. It got weaker as I proceeded south on I-17 from Flagstaff.

It sounded like a police department, the dispatcher was giving 10-28 replies with plate expiration etc.

I did check both the RR database and the FCC in AZ, NM, CO and UT and came up empty. I did a search on 160.500 in the FCC database and there were no licensees in the area. While not unheard of it would be unusual for a non-railroad to be operating on this frequency.

Anyone have any leads on this?

That range falls between local government & Railroad PD. Few 160-161 MHz used in other states various transportation related PD. Interesting find!

Question from 1,000 miles away. Did you confirm this on multiple manufactures radios? To rule out an image or something like that? I see Coconino County uses 151.4 on one SO channel.

No, too far away. The UP lines nearest to Flagstaff are in Phoenix (where I live) and they do not use it there. Las Vegas is about 200 miles away and the signal was way too strong for that distance.
