161.775 Weather station

Was just curious? if anybody else has been copying 161.775 Canadian weather station in the area here (LI etc.)
been strong all day in French and English maritime weather by YL with reports beleive this is St. Johns, NB
also a stronger Canadian wx station is on 161.650 also ...condx have been really super today ...thanks 73,s Marcy

Multi-day tropospheric band opening here in the northeast. Conditions have been incredible in both directions from my location on Cape Cod. You are correct as to the origin. Try the marine band also, you may hear Fundy Traffic on a few different channels, primarily 14 (156.700) and Halifax Coast Guard Radio on 16 (156.8) and elsewhere as well.

I have had 700 and 800 MHz hits on various trunked systems as well, even into Pennsylvania earlier today.

Weather conditions appear they'll change by Wednesday so it'll likely come to an end. Here is a good source for propagation reports. It is primarily for VHF-HI but also reflects the conditions for UHF and above. VHF Propagation Map

Halifax NS Coast Guard Radio on 156.800 was just heard here about 5 minutes ago, exceptionally strong.

Also try 156.700, hearing Bay of Fundy Traffic strong there as well, but of course difference in locations can result in a big difference in reception. The link I sent in the other post is really a good indicator of what's going on. We definitely have an advantage during these openings being on the coast.

Nothing heard on161.775 in upstate NY (Capital Region). However, I can almost (barely) make out some signal on 161.650. I'll keep checking for a few days.

According to the propagation map, looks like you're just outside of the good stuff. Hopefully it'll slide your way.

Funny, the Brookhaven Lab WX station has been completely down for a while, I wish they would get it back up!

161.775 marine weather is located near Leamington on., 35 miles s/west from Detroit Mi.
Also one on 161.650., in Sarnia On., across from Port Huron Mi
