There are three users of 163.5125 within range of me in northern VA. But I have yet to ID the user with NAC 011. Comms are about 50/50 clear/encrypted.

I've heard the callsigns of 'Comanche' (most common), 'Roadrunner', 'Ranger', and 'Base'. Locations mentioned have been a restaurant in Arlington and 495/Rt 7. It seems like the unit calling in is usually on the move somewhere when they do. Seems kind of like an escort/security detail.

Any ideas?

Might be Pikeside/167th Airlift in Berkeley Co. WV. Someone told me a while ago that some of these freqs are common for other air bases. So, we might be getting a couple different ones with different NACs.

Airports Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

On the recordings I've gotten today, I heard a Fairfax taxi tag ran, what I think was "Reston" mentioned and roads "Civil" and what sounded like "Ramson" for the taxi location and heard Dulles. Also mention of "The Compound".

Edit: Road "Ellicot". Also tornado warning for the DC Metro Area that went out today. Also heard "tunnel" and "bunker". Also mention of "Canal Road". To me it sounds like a mix of general security (running tags, vehicle searches with K9) and as freqhopping mentioned, casual "following" of someone(s).

I seem to recall a posting about a year ago, where the NAC was $00F and it was thought also to be the 167th... either of them could be a false NAC [weak signal] keep listening :p

I'm getting a good signal on all transmissions with different NACs. I actually programmed the freq in twice with 00F and 001. They seem like different locations. I'm also seeing and hearing the same things with other freqs in the same range, but I'm not going to worry about those right now and on here as to not confuse anything.

Just for reference, I have heard 163.5125 [NAC 00F] and 163.5125 [NAC 011] from Fredericksburg. I've heard 163.5125 [NAC 293] from the DC area. All of these logs are at least one or two years old, so things could have changed.

I logged 163.5125 from the Staunton area on two different occasions in 2010. I wasn't able to get a NAC, but it was a unit requesting a supervisor, and an encrypted response. I never could identify who it was, so I filed it away under my mystery frequencies.

Mike, do your recordings record separately for the different NACs? I haven't been able to listen to them, unable to stream or download them. :confused:

I think the 167th is NAC293. I know who is using 00F. It's only 011 I haven't nailed down yet. I didn't hear anything yesterday afternoon/evening, But on Tuesday I heard callsigns 'Comet', 'Ridge' and 'Roadrunner base'. A location is called 'Evergreen'.

Last bit of a recording on Tuesday was 'Ridge - Comet, Comet enroute, Buckeye schedule, buckeye ranger sierra bravo'.

Yeah, they do list them as I have the names set. The 00F and 011 are named with their NACs. If you want to stream and/or listen to the recordings, email me what issues you were having and I'll see if we can fix it.

$293 was thought to be Langley / Security

My database shows this to be an Andrews AFB P25 operations simplex frequency.

they could be the same at different bases.

Just listened to a recording of a supervisor call out to all that over time was approved and that if anyone in the "Reston region" was interested to call the supervisor's office.

Evergreen is the name of the chapel at Camp David. Most of the buildings have been named for trees etc.
Aspen = President's cabin
Willow = WHMO, WHCA command communication facility
Delta = Hanger for HMX-1

USSS has a vehicle referred to as "Road Runner" Last time I saw it it was a Ford van with a dozen or so antennas on it.

This does not mean that what anyone has heard is the USSS.

I'm beginning to think it is the Diplomatic Security Service. I'm hearing similar activities but with different callsigns and codewords on 164.725 NAC 012, which after listening to a recording from today I'm fairly certain is DSS. There was even a mention of a Turkish motorcade.

It's got to be Secret Service. I just heard the same callsigns and codewords on a different USSS channel.

When both are programmed as single-channel trunk system the TGID for both is 17.
