When you pickup this freq was it in P25 digital or analog? FBI typically uses a 167.9 PL in analog and in P25 FBI typically uses a 167 NAC.

Hi KampingAnthony1AolCo

I only have an analog scanner; BCT15. Will have to wait to see if it comes back to catch the PL tone. It may have been someone passing through town.

Doubtful it's the F.B.I buddy. If it is they can and usually do use unencrypted traffic for opps stuff, but rarely will it be an analog radio transmission. They do operate a lot with P25 digital in Phase 1 that's a single conventional frequency. Unfortunately I am no-where near where you live to monitor this VHF transmission you speak of. It could be a simple radio interference too.

It could also be an image from the business band. Alot of FBI is transitioning from analog with the 167.9 PL to P25 with the 167 NAC and it will likely be fully Encrypted.

It could be a user in Canada.

Checking on a map, you are closer to the border than I am, and my scanners are constantly inundated with traffic from Canada.

Very true. Could be a business band, especially if he's hearing some woman talking. 9/10 times when you hear FBI transmissions you know it's them. Just like listening to law enforcement. All letters are NATO spelled out and there's other signs too

Did you ever get a tone for this freq? Without a tone it is very hard to determine what you could be listening to.
