Hearing two helo's on 169.650 NFM CSQ talking about dropping equipment into LZ's. This freq isn't in the DB or my personal notes, can any one confirm it's use?

Could be an air-air channel they use. I've heard some using a freq in the 169MHz vicinity that's not documented anywhere.

Air to ground, too.
Im listening to them right now. they checked in with Travis tower on 120.750AM and were talking to guys on the ground somewhere over Rio Vista.

Maybe power tower maint? or wind turbine construction?

These guys are back in town. Judging by the lingo it sounds like the same people. My guess is they're doing work for the Federal power transmission network that runs the length of the San Joaquin Valley. I've got a bunch of recordings to go over so that should yield more info.

The recordings weren't much but this group are federally contracted helos doing maintenance or install for the federally maintained/operated (by DOE/WAPA) transmission lines that run along I-5. Sounds like they're working on a leg south of the Tesla sub-station down towards Newman. Helos are parked at the Tracy airport. They started on the 10th and are still at it today.

For what it's worth, 169.650 is a Federal pool frequency. It can be used by just about any Government agency or contractor in the course of normal business. The only reference I have on it is from an old freq. list I carried back when I was flying tankers. 169.650 was (back then) programmed into one of our radios that the NIFC required installed in the plane. My notes indicate the following agencies allocated:

US Forest Service / Region 1 - 5
U.S. Department of the Interior / All Area
Bureau of Land Management / All Area
Bureau of Indian Affairs / South Zone Only

I vaguely remember using 169.650 on several occasions, usually as an Air-to-Ground contact freq. with BLM during the initial attack phase of a fire. Other than that, I've got nothing else of offer up about it.

Might you be confusing 168.6500 [National Flight Following??]

My notes for 169.6500 show back in pre 2003 as USPS part of the USPS Links for UHF to VHF [here in New England] Nothing since 2003

The only other reference is USF&W in MS linked to 411.9000 at
Sandhill Crane NWR, the VHF is P25 $094

No, I'm pretty familiar with AFF/NFF. One of the target listings that I have is the contact freq. for
Socorro BLM in New Mexico (that's from the National Freq. Guide by the BLM / USFS/ DOI). I suppose back then, USPS may have used a different freq on the west coast - thus NIFC grabbed it. I dunno.
