I realize this may be a "broad general question?" does anybody get any hits
on this freq.? I get something like brief encrypted trans, and at times it gets
stuck on open carrier for close to a minute or two right after the transmission
I see in the database there is some NPS but nothing close to my qth? any input
appreciated....really has me curious cause it is strong here ...73,s Marcy

(I maybe should have posted this in the NY forum sri?)

Well VHF has been Open the past week+ and it is a FED channel, so keeping it here is best :)

Any NAC or PL/DPL

Here in New England it belongs to the State of Maine VHF TRS (MSComNet)
for a few locations, but also shared with NPS (Acadia NP) in Maine as well

And then in both CT and the region of NY (Long Island) it has been known to be FBI (Past notes/logs)

Just like the original poster I have often come across federal VHF frequencies where it just sits there transmitting an unmodulated carrier for a minute or two. What's up with that?

In the 2021 NTIA unclassified file, it shows up in a Department of the Interior nationwide itinerant pool along with hundreds of other freqs in the high-band 162–174, low-band 30–50, and UHF 406–420 ranges. They are described simply as:
REQUIRED FOR SHORT TERM INTERMITTENT USE AT UNSPECIFIED LOCATIONS AND
FOR NOTIFICATION OF PLANNED REGULAR OPERATIONS.

But, remember that list only provided the released info

from multiple monitorings over many years, that freq/NAC is 100% FBI (Nassau County) NY and confirmed by recent 337xxxx RID's

I've found them, just like ole' analog repeaters become defective etc

Heck two recent [past 5 yrs examples] I tracked down an FAA Repeater that was stuck on, but in Analog
finally found someone at the FAA (of all things thru here at RR) who gave me a local # to contact.
they shut it off, or likely power reset and poof all set.

And then, we have an ICE Repeater net that when the Remote RX get's COLD (Winter) sends out DPL via the repeater

Just show you never know what you will find out there in ANY Band, not just FEDS
Now to wait to for the CCR Yacht radios to start up with interference in the Media Bands again this summer (450/455)

That's cool. I like the network of resourceful people here on this website.

There is an assignment in Queens, NY for a federal agency.
As for your question about 407.4375 that is the VA Northport, NY.

Did you mean 409.4375 ?

He probably did as 409.4375 comes back with 25 hits related to VA hospitals around the country so if Marcy was getting strong hits, it could very well be the Northport VA. Only other listed user on that freq that she would probably get a decent hit on (based on her location) would be the VA hospital in West Haven CT. That one is listed as analog but who knows, they could have switched to digital.
