Has anyone heard any activity on 172.8125 MHz in the Poolesville, MD area? This a federal frequency assignment.

Got the NAC by hearing activity once upon a time. I'm right across the river from Poolesville.

This isn't something I ever tune in to. Found it during an occasional federal VHF search.

Looks like you have an ID for 172.8125 and was/is not MSCOMMNET-Maine TRS from Sugarloaf Mountain...as once thought...Maine took a big chunk of federal allocations, and RR Band frequencies...

170mhz RFE at 110 watts transmitting P25 modulation would be one hell of a ridiculously lucky skip to pull and decode correctly on two separate receivers from over 500 miles away, and necessarily a skip due to the curvature of the earth getting directly in the way...

2 transmissions were heard yesterday around 1030 EDT. They were received and decoded but the person who told me about it didn't make note of any NAC. He is definitely it was APCO P25 but unsure whether it was Phase 1 or Phase 2. Thanks for the info all.

With VHF band opening's that we have had this summer, it would be highly possible to receive them..and when the OP originally had asked about this frequency, we were at a pretty good peak..
Also Sugarloaf Mtn is 4,249 Ft ASL....

The VHF High Band has been wide open regularly this summer

VHF Propagation Map

Even have had some nice 380, 420, T-Band, 800 and 900 opennings as well

Nice.

I had found a document last year (or earlier this year) that broke down the C&O Radio system, but no Frequencies.

Ch.01 Lambs Knoll Repeater
Ch.02 Maderis School Repeater
Ch.03 Cacapon State Park Repeater
Ch.04 Irons Mtn Repeater
Ch.04 NOAA WX Radio
Ch.05 Simplex
Ch.06 Simplex

C&O Canal

Same activity is heard on 170.3625 and 169.6875 KQC732

In that case

Ch.01 Lambs Knoll Repeater 170.36250 (Frederick Co/Washington Co, MD border)
Ch.02 Maderis School Repeater Correct name is Madeira School (Great Falls) 169.6875
Ch.03 Cacapon State Park Repeater 166.35000 Can't receive this one.
Ch.04 Irons Mtn Repeater (North Branch, MD I assume)

And there's no way I'm receiving the Irons Mt repeater. There must be another one somewhere else.

Not to go off topic but I have heard 171.9000 NAC 4F9 from eastern howard county, it is pretty weak from my location but definitely NPS related. I wonder if that is the missing link?
