I was scanning across the federal VHF band and heard a signal on 172.8125 MHz. I live about 10 miles east of Phily. Does anyone know who is using 172.8125 MHz in the Phily area? I had my scanner set up for an analog signal but I heard a buzz/hum almost like a 60 Hz hum.

We can help if you can provide a NAC.

I just remembered that the buzzing also could be the Federal cops texting each other on the radio.

According to the database, the New Jersey Air National Guard has this frequency patched to the 121.900 ground control frequency at the Atlantic City airport.
I'm not saying this is what you heard, just FYI.
Try switching to AM instead of FM or NFM, or use Auto mode if your scanner has it.

It's not this. I know about this. BTW the National Guard have nothing to do with 172.8125 - 121.9 system at KACY. It's a FAA system.

The only thing I can find in the RR data base is a new trunk system in Maine. The 172.8125 MHz frequency is on Sugarloaf Mtn.

There is also a site in Maryland or Virginia north-west of DC I know about but I don't see this site in the RR data base.

BTW I'm using an Uniden BCD536HP.

Some TRS systems use freqs from the Federal Band.

Yes there is a P25 user with $4C5, but no one has identified who/where
It was heard around the 2013 Inaugural events
