I have a 1996 Nissan Altima that has hardly no room to install a big bulky radio so I purchased a Motorola Spectra UHF radio with head unit and had to think where I was gonna put it. Well after puting it in some places and testing it the spot I put it is jujst perfect. Of course I can't put the car in any gear lower that Drive.

I do too. I just do not know what material would be safe enough to put over the plank that would be heat resistant. Have any ideas

If the plank is secured, I wouldn't worry about it! Did you think about mounting the "9" head below the car radio? It would have needed a fabricated bracket, but it could fit flush enough to free up your console area.

Dynamat under the radio, cover the rest of the wood with industrial carpeting, or consider coating the entire thing with undercoating or bedline.
