I'm in an HOA and while their policy verbiage doesn't specifical say I can't have an antenna, I'm quite confident we have many people that would have an opinion on the matter, just because they have nothing better to do.

I'm either going to try and string something up in a tree or I'm starting to lean more towards a specific part of my roof, if I could get a vertical antenna mounted on one of my gutters or something, I would only need like 5' to clear my roofline.
Similar situation here, I feel your pain. I have a Black Comet SBB-5 and Black Comet CA-2x4SR and Both work very well. Unfortuanately , My endfed wire for hf has to be inside my apartment.

the ICOM IC-5100AD is both FM analog (the A) and D-STAR digital (the D). The ICOM IC-2730A is FM analog (the A) only.
The "A" in the model numbers for Icom VHF/UHF radios means that it's intended for the North American market. The "A" does not mean "analog" in this case.

Good morning all. A busy morning already...technicians test passed, trip to Ham Radio Outlet complete, debit card on fire, dogs got out after I got home and I had to find one a mile away in my neighborhood...
Sounds like you accomplished a lot of fun activities this morning! And a big CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎊🍾🎈 on passing the Technician class ham test! You are now licensed to transmit! We can even talk to each other now on the East Coast Reflector. 73 my friend and welcome to the ham world of fun! Dave K4EET

Yes sir, I'll have to wait on the FCC to hit that transmit button. Working on figuring out my exact antenna placement. I may have purchased too tall of a vertical antenna, all will depend on where I can get it placed reasonably...so may have to go exchange that for a shorter one...we shall see.

It will not take the FCC very long to get your information in the database and issue your callsign. Just keep checking the FCC’s database.

As for the new “candy” or “toys” that you picked up at HRO, care to share? On the vertical antenna, is that HF or VHF/UHF? My Cushcraft R9 HF antenna is about 30 feet long and needs to be mounted at least 10 feet off the ground. My Cushcraft AR-270B is about 20 feet tall and is also mounted at least 10 feet off the ground (preferably higher). So yes, antenna heights can be rather high. 😃

Well I'll be checking it here and there and hopefully see myself in the database soon...just no way to gauge what "soon" really looks like with a 3 letter agency lol

For the home setup (things could pivot as I figure out this antenna deal):

- Icom 5100A
- Stand for Icom
- Alinco DM-30 Power Supply
- Diamond Comet X-300A antenna
- 75' of P-75 coaxial cable (could need more, could need less depending on if antenna location changes based on mounting options)

Then something shiny, close to the register caught my eye...

- Icom ID-52A
- Diamond SRH77CA Antenna

I've started the initial reach out to an electrician that's willing to get on my roof and mount this antenna, etc...the first one (at least based on my description of work in the online quote request) said, "this is outside of our scope of work" lol
