I noticed for my area feeds, you guys have etk1200 who brodcast a feed of system 6-7 for sbso. Recently there was another person, who started a new feed who is brodcasting yucaipa \ surrounding areas, it is the same as etk1200's. Why do we allow that.... This is probably a question for admin.. thanks..

When we approve feeds we check other feeds in the county and we dont add anything that is the EXACT (meaning same exact agency(s)). They can add feeds with the same agency as others as long as its got something deffrent(EX:Home County Police and Fire)

Deffrent feed-Home County Police and Fire
(also includes Home city police)

The 2 feeds in question are different. The Yucaipa one appears to monitor Yuciapa and the Mountain system along with CalFire. The SBCO 6/7 monitors Fontana, Rialto and other valley areas. The more the merrier :)

I was the admin that approved the Yucaipa feed.
As Kendirk said, we try very hard to not approve exact duplicate feeds.
If there is a difference in agencies, cities, counties etc, a feed while close, may be approved. We look at the feed description and the feed info page at the time of the new feed application.

Once approved, a new feed owner may add or remove agencies from their feed info page at will & we do not know about it. So a case of close but not exact may wind up being exactly the same. They may also later request a feed change with different info & we may not catch it although we do try to look at the other feeds in the county first.

This is where, each feed owner needs to have all the scanned agencies in the feed info page. We do include many of the agencies in the feed description, but this can only be done to a point.

The two feeds were different enough so it was approved.

I have denied many a new feed owner's for wanting to exact dupe an existing feed.

It never hurts to have at least 2 feeds of the same content. Some systems, especially digital systems, the quality can differ greatly between 2 locations. Sometimes 1 feed may have better quality than the other.

kendrick i understand, but it is the same because both systems brodcast the same. meaning 6-7 will brodcast all of those areas ,unless they are locking out the cities they do not wish to brod..... wait maybe i just awnsered my own??? but if they dont lock every city out, it will brodcast all of those cities...

Also i might add that system 7 was not the orginal feed name. I did a feed change last night for that feed and they ask me to change it to system 7. So, thats example how they tell us one thing to get there feed approved but later on ask us to change it, cause they know its hard for us to catch that.

As said, we go by what the feed provides tells us.

Checking the data base is not viable, as that is a lot of extra work on us.

The feed owner needs to list things correctly.

As said, when there is a feed change request, we do look to see if that change request is not a dupe of another feed, but feeds do not always list or completely list the agencies in the feeds.

We do the best we can.

Why would anyone feel the need to moan about too many feeds for one area? The more the merrier. Some people have way too much crap on their feeds, so you get bits and pieces of 50 different channels/talkgroups and can never really follow the action properly. Other people use subpar equipment or connections that make the audio almost unbearable to listen to. It's nice to have choices. The only one who should truly be concerned about exactly identical feeds is Lindsay, because it's his pockets the potential premium subscription fee is coming out of. Let the audio admins do their jobs instead of playing "feed police", or at least contact an admin privately if you have a concern.

One example of a "duplicate" feed, but not really, is Rockland County, NY. One guy has a scanner in NJ and includes a few Rockland PD agencies in his scanlist. He has his feed up first. Another guy came along later with a scanner inside the county itself and includes the same PD agencies on his feed, but they are of much better audio/reception quality and aren't constantly getting cut out by the NJ agencies the other guy has on his feed. Had the admins denied the second feed because they felt it was a duplicate, we would've lost a great feed.
