2 Fire Incidents in Evergreen

Two fire incidents in Evergreen thisafternoon, both lightning related, close to 2:30PM. The Buchanan Rec. Center, located off Evergreen Parkway near Highway 103 Squa Pass Road, lighning strike. Building evacuated, fire within building. Structural issues, Evergreen Fire requested Jeffco Building Department come to incident. Concerned with unstable structure. Fire out before 4PM. Second similar fire near Highway 73 and Brook Forest Road, near the BFI transfer station, one-quarter acre fire. Controlled around 3:30. Less than a mile from my house, could see the smoke. EVERGREEN - A fire was started at a recreational center on Monday due to lightning.

Lightning hit the building at 32003 Ellingwood Trail at about 3 p.m.

Crews knocked the fire down in about an hour, but not before flames spread to some brush around the center.

The building was evacuated after the fire began.

No one was reported injured.

Thanks Jim. The fire actually spread within the building per fire comms, they brought in thermal equipment, saw glowing in the soffits, a lot of smoke, thus the eventual county issue request. Let's all hope the structure is OK. Fire was also reported outside the building, but quickly contained. Just saw local 9 News report, what a stage show.
