I do a lot of flying and I’ve been trying to find a good 2 m 70 cm mobile antenna that would break down to around 15 or 16 inches. Anyone have any good ideas or is it possible to find a good one like that ?

A dual band Pulse-Larsen should fit your bill! If you get the one with a spring, it can be removed but needs to reinstalled when in use.

Maybe look at the super flexible antennas made by STI-CO Industries. They have antennas that can be tied into a knot, so putting them in a suitcase or bag would be easy. I'm assuming you use these with a rental car and a magmount? A 2m quarterwave will actually work on 440 as well, so maybe a STI-CO VHF quarterwave?
