I was googling around today looking for "common" 2 meter simplex frequencies when I came across the simplex page for the Utah VHF Society. The page (after a lengthy discussion about simplex operation) lists simplex channels for ARES groups in quite a few counties and also packet frequencies for several counties.
Do these groups actually use simplex? Salt Lake County ARES is listed for 6 simplex channels!
Also there is mention of 2 meter packet frequencies, which make it look like there is a lot of packet operation going on along the Wasatch front. Is packet radio an active niche of ham radio in Utah? I can't say I have ever heard any (other than APRS) in Las Vegas.
I'm mostly just curious, I travel up to American Fork From Las Vegas quite often to visit my sister
