3145,

I don't know if it will be of any help, but the town got itself a license for 453./458.9375 under call sign WQDH-253. I don't know what they are using the pair for - maybe hazardous materials?

Anyone have any further details?

3145,

They're probably not only simplex but low power as well. OSHA regulations for HazWOpers specify that communications must be maintained between the entry team leader, the safety officer, and their incident commander (see section 1910.120(j)(5)(iv) at http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=STANDARDS&p_id=9765 ) Many agencies have taken this to mean that a dedicated channel just for the haz mat team is a must at an emergency scene where such a team is operating. The channel only needs to cover the area from the hot zone, out past the warm zone, into the cold zone - so, if the system is set up like most I've seen, don't expect to hear too much if you're too far away from the action.
