• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello.

I have 2-tone decode set-up and functioning. I’m trying to fine tune the settings. Follow along below…

1. The A-B tones are received
2. The radio alerts using the selected special tone after the B tone finishes.
3. With the length of the special alert tone, it “cuts off” the voice of the dispatcher. I have shortened the length of the special tone. The special alert tone is what should wake the crews up at night, so it can’t be shortened anymore.
4. Is there a way to make the radio frequency open sooner, still play the special alert tone, and not miss part of the dispatch information?

Thank you.

3) need to be a little more creative with the tone so your not over-running the B tone timing.

4) it all about the timing settings, if the B tone is long it may cause the radio to not unmute if you shorten the timer TOO MUCJH.
Have to be at a bench with a monitor testing it so you don't cause issues in a real time environment.

5) Instant recall, even without an SD CARD, you can use the internal storage to play back the call **** my suggestion.

I think the only way around this is to train dispatchers to wait before passing voice traffic, or have them repeat it twice.

We ran this at our fire station for years, and you have to balance the length of the alert tone with the dispatchers popping up.

Other trick is to keep the alert tone really short, but use one of the output pins on the rear of the radio to trigger the lights as the wakeup.

Alright, I remixed the special alert tone to a tone that should wake up the crews and shortened length of the special alert tone to 0.8 total seconds. Using a secondary channel, so not to cause problems in the real world, it sounds fine when I send the pager tones from another radio. If the dispatcher jumps right on the mic after the A-B tones quit… that creates the problem.

Fair enough and makes sense. Breaking habits at the dispatch center is easier said than done. 😜

How many milliseconds was your special alert tone?

Yeah, I get it. Might take some time, a few asks for repeats, but they'll figure it out.

I don't recall. This was 10 years ago when I still had a fire department I supported. It was also on a Motorola CDM-1250. But same issue.
