To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking at setting up a designated paging channel for enabling Voice Mute and being able to receive page alerts on my radios for my fire department. We use 2-Tone (A-B) paging and I have the tones for the A & B but I can't find the tone codes. I am using the latest version of RES and under the Two-Tone Picklist set up it has the entry for the tone in Hz as well as the tone code.

Do you have to have the tone A/B Codes field populated? If so, what is the Tone Code for 601.0 Hz and 587.0 Hz, I can't find them anywhere.
Do I need to setup the designated paging channel with no code guard on the receive frequency ?
I also am not sure on what settings need to be made for the Voice Mute Index, Voice Mute Type and Auto Voice Mute in the zone/channel setup.

Any help would be appreciated.

In RES, go to the system tab and select your conventional system (probably #1). Then over to the right, click the two-tone list button. It should pop up a window that says conventional system two-tone picklist. Click add row. This creates a blank row in index #1 (if there are no others). You might need to grab the edge of this pop-up and drag it to make the window big enough to read the column headings. Double-click on the new row in the Tone A column and enter 601.0. Now double-click on the Tone B column and enter 587.0. You can now close the pop-up.
Go to the zone tab and select your zone, then select your channel in that zone. You may wish to go to the menu and do a view/channel view selection/single channel view. It makes things easier to find IMO. Now on your channel, look for the voice mute section. It has an auto checkbox, a type, and an index. Change the type to two-tone. Change the index to 1 (or whatever the row # was of the picklist entry you made).
If you check auto, that will cause the radio to automatically mute and stay muted whenever you are on this channel until it receives the two-tone signal. If you leave it unchecked, you probably want to assign voice mute to a button or a menu because you will need to manually enable it each time you want to use it. It's up to you how you want to do this.
Hope that helps.
