Hi all,

Planning to install a Wilson 8-element 850 mHz yagi, and a Maxrad 5-element VHF-Hi yagi on the same mast and rotor with the smaller Wilson antenna on the top of the mast at 38 feet. Coax will be LMR-400 on the Wilson and high-quality RG-6 on the Maxrad.

I would assume mounting the two antennas 180° back-to-back at the same elevation would be a no-no. Any comments as to how far I should vertically separate or radially orientate these two antennas for maximum reception?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

Point them both in the same direction. The advice I heard is to separate at least 1/4 of a wavelength of the lower frequency antenna measuring from the tip of the longest elements. So have at least a 19 inch gap between the antennas.

Hey 71, yeah Eric has you fixed up good. Same direction is fine. The 1/4 wave separation is a minimum. You should have plenty of room to work with so I'd separate them by 28-36 inches. Relatively speaking, the more the better.

good luck
