Just acquired a Maxrad 1000 antenna for the scanner in my Blazer, couldn't wait to get 'er installed. Only have one pic of it though. Looks sweet. See attachment.

I dig it but it has unity gain. No differnet then a rubber duck but i guess around town you dont need much.

Any external antenna that is designed to cover the correct band is better than a rubber duck.. Personally I would have drilled in the NMO mount. Its a 13 year old blazer. A correctly installed NMO will not leak.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9780; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.8+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0.0.600 Mobile Safari/534.8+)

It has more gain than a rubber duck. A handheld antenna has negative gain(attenuates)when compared to a dipole or isotropic radiator.

Is there a different antenna which y'all would recommend? I hear Larsen's got some good products. I'm basically going for something that will work on VHF and 800 as that is 99.9 percent of my scanning up here. I had a RS magnet mount on it previously that would get about 65-70 miles pretty scratchy. Since the one I have is a unity gain antenna, I'm correct in assuming I won't recieve similar results? Is there an NMO antenna that people here have that I could potentially see those results?

I Have The Same Antenna On My Pickup, It Works Great.

Considering I snagged this antenna from a local radio shop I think I did pretty damn good for only sinking 57 dollars into the whole shootin' match, and even saved myself five bucks by adding on my own BNC connector, which can be easily changed should I decide to utilize that antenna for something different.

Looks nice, how did you get the coax into the cab?

Ran along the fender line, over the top door hinge, tucked under the dashboard, and out to the radio. I belive the mount had like 16 foot of cable, so I have 90 percent of it tucked under my dashboard until I can acquire materials to build a radio console box for everything.

Your going to regret running through the hinge. It will get pinched the best way would be to run it in through a hole in the engine compartment to under the dashboard. There is a wire bundle under there you can probably get it through with a small hole in the boot.

I wasn't looking for that to be permanent... I was installing this in a 40 mile an hour wind and wanted to get it done. Once I get a more permanent mounting solution worked, I'll move the cable as needed.
