Jeff,
Loaded in about 5 TG's that I've heard on the Monroe site, in the 396 after reading your post.
Left the BCT-15 in search and put the 396 in scan. Was not able to duplicate your issue. The 396 and 15 stopped on the same TG's whether in scan or search. No missed transmissions.
Ignore status bits, NO control channel only (just my preference), with only about 2 bars of reception on both the 396 and 15.

Back-stepping a minute..I'm able to pick up the Monroe PD and FD conventional channels with full quieting, but am hitting the VIPER Monroe site with 2 bars max.
Anyone know how far apart the two sites are?

Jeff, Have you submitted the new Monroe site to the admin. for submission?

BTW - a new supervisor begins work at the Troop H radio shop on Monday. I understand his name is Ralph Bartlett, and he is from the area. If you have reason to go by the headquarters, be sure to say "hello" and welcome him.

Ralph came by our radio shop at Troop G. He actually works for VIPER and is not the supervisor at Troop H. He is part of the VIPER group who are separate from the radio shops. He is an advanced level networking technician. He is a super nice guy and as stated is a ham. We had a very nice chat... Just a really nice guy...

Sam,
Good to have you around here at RR.com! I have merged your thread here with the VIPER thread...please keep all VIPER related posts in this thread...as far as the answer to your question:
6448 is NCLEGPD1 (NC Legislative PD 1)...Police assigned around the Legislative Bldg in Raleigh...6512 is NCLEGPD2 (NC Legislative PD 2)...
Hope this helps!

The CAP Civil Air Patrol is getting dozens of radios (XTS5000's?). They're using talkgroup 42640 for Channel 1 and 42656 is Channel 2. That is what I heard them referred to. Also some other talkgroups to come (ADMIN, CALLING, TAC and a spare, they said).

Allright lets not get carried away with the binary :D :)
But to answer your question Sam I expect that CAP will
keep their exisiting VHF freqs and will continue to use
them where VIPER coverage is still spotty....

Sam you might try getting the VHF/UHF listings from the RR DB for Granville Co. & see if any of them are patched into VIPER. If so, you may be able to find at least some of the ID's you listed.

When I lived in northern Wake Co. I would occasionally pick up Granville Co. traffic. If I still lived there, I would be glad to help you with that endeavor. Good luck!

How about working together to identify unidentified TG's

I was sorting through my .gid file from UniTrunker and see that I have 220 unidentified TalkGroup ID's I have logged in the last couple of weeks. Actually I have more however I did not add all of them to the unidentified file I keep on hand on my pc for reference.

This has made me eager to get on here and ask if anyone would like to compare TG ID's to see if I (we) can properly identify TalkGroups. It is becoming obvious to me the The VIPER system in North Carolina is growing continuosly as new Organizations come online.

The TG ID's I am talking about are NOT contained in the current database file online here and I know there are people in the know on this site who have information that is not currently entered in the database online here.

So please if anyone would like to share their information with my I will be more than glad to share what I have. I have a little more than what the database online here has however I have several hundred unidentified talk groups that I have logged personally that I wish to get identified so I can take the "Unidentfied" label off what pops up on screen.

Thanks everyone.

Questions on Radios in Use on VIPER

I seem to remember Marshall posting way back that three models of Mother Moto portables would be in use on the system, namely the XTS 2500, XTS 3000, & XTS 5000.

The local government and state entities in my area that have access to VIPER seem to all use XTS 5000's (SHP included). Is there a reason(s) the 5000 seems to be used over the other two available radios?

I am just curious if it deals with options, etc. Thanks in advance for any/all replies.

Hey brother...I wouldn't limit the type of radios used on VIPER to just Mother Moto...remember that as long as the interop is there ANY brand of radio can be used on VIPER....granted a good number of agencies are going with Motos but there are other types of rigs on the system...it all depends on the budget the agency/locality has to work with and what they can afford...some local agencies have been lucky enough to be awarded grant money they have used to outfit their public safety personnel with XTS5Ks worth around $3K-$3,500...other large agencies have to cut costs to make sure everyone is outfitted so they are only able to go with XTS2500's...lots of variables go along with this issue....my main point in all of my rambling is that VIPER is not a "Moto Only" game...it is a set of plans for interop among agencies that is blind to any one manufacturer...I could use a Kenwood as long as it met the specs for interoperability...
Hope this helps!

Thanks Marshall. That helps to clarify some things. I guess my next question would be what does the XTS 5000 do on VIPER that the 3000 & 2500 cannot do? (My thinking is more Motorola specific for some unknown reason. )

Burke County

I ran across a message at Yahoo Carolinascanner Group of a member listing VIPER traffic coming alive in Burke County. Here is a link to one reply of several to the original post concerning the topic on the group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/carolinascanner/message/3643

The post lists a few active monitored talkgroups specific to Burke County traffic. Someone in another reply mentioned the talkgroups being patched, which would be expected.

Here is a list of what they gave.

Burke County Sheriff is 22352
Morganton Public Safety is 22368
Burke EMS dispatch is 22304
Burke Fire is 22320
Burke Rescue is 22336

Maybe some of our official RR folks can verify and post these to the DB once confirmed!
