The Kenansville site has been up for about 2 years. I have said this several times. There is more on it now than there was a year ago. I used to live in Kenansville and kept a trunktracker on this system 24 hr.
I can hear it mobile here in Pink Hill.

From what I am able to monitor from Hickory, I believe Concord is transmitting a control channel, though I have not heard any voice traffic to verify that. I don't think any Mecklenburg County sites are online from what I am able to hear.

It would depend on where you are located, and what your setup is, as to which sites you might be able to listen to. It could be site from Mecklenburg or several surrounding counties.

Where are you located?

Union County, NC. In between Charlotte and Monroe. Just lloking at the sites listed on the VIPER database and the known TG's, it looks like everything is up in Raleigh.

The plan calls for Mecklenburg, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, and Cabarrus County sites to be reality by the end of next year.

Maybe some of these sites will come online before then. Like Concord site. It's control channel is 868.5125 if you want to try to hear it.

Nothing other than that possibility for you to listen to now.

I guess the only reason Baker Mtn here in Catawba County is up and running is because SHP agreed to help Catawba maintain frequencies for future use.

Anbody logged talkgroups in the 2096-3104 range anywhere on the VIPER system that are not already posted on the RR database? They don't have to be confirmed.

Picked up on 2224 from the Granite Quarry site in Rowan County. It appears to be Salisbury Troop E dispatch (800MHz and 42MHz).

Trying to establish a pattern for how talkgroups may be set up for all the SHP troops based on some sketchy information.

Well it looks like NCSHP is back to licensing again.

Not 800MHz sites though. 6.7GHz.

Microwave paths are being upgraded to digital.

Sites in Johnston, Wake, Harnett, Granville, and Vance Counties will be getting spiffy new Alcatel MDR-8706-16 microwave transmitters along with Andrew Corp. PL6-65F transmit and PL8-65F receive antennae.

TG 11312 has been added to my log. Not enough conversation to identify what it is. Pretty much "how do I sound" and it was over.

Baker Mtn. seems to be a popular site for VIPER radio checks. I guess that since it is on the I-40 corridor and currently the western endpoint of the working system, in transit users can't resist trying out the statewide coverage.

If anyone is interested in how VIPER sounds statewide, I captured a bit of traffic off Raleigh SHP TG 2096 monitored here on Baker Mtn. site in Catawba County.

Real nice audio.

Yeah, I know, nothing happening here.

Hopefully no news is good news, and NCSHP is busy working on building all the new VIPER sites they licensed the last couple of months.

North Carolina is not very good at updating its official websites on the project.

Some of the other states with similar systems really have excellent web pages full of information.

Here's a quick mapping of the latest NCSHP VIPER license applications.

Fisher Peak in Surry County and Pores Knob in Wilkes County are not on it.

Fisher's Peak actually sits just inside Virginia in either Carrol or Grayson Counties. Surry County, NC has one of their repeater sites there also.

What I meant about the sites not being on the map is that they wouldn't fit with the scaling I was using. They are both on the west side of I-77 where I cut things off at.

On another note, I'm glad you ran across all those proposed license sites for VIPER. The bad thing is the licensing seems to be the easy part. It's the installation, etc. that takes so long. :lol:

Don in Raeford sent along some further info about the VIPER site application for McCain in Hoke County.

The site is at the NC Dept. of Corrections hospital facility. He says the location will be taking advantage of a 600 ft. sandhill. Based on its location, some coverage should extend into Moore, Richmond, and Scotland Counties as well.

Interesting to have people comment on local details.

Thanks to an info donation I have added additional Wake County Sheriff Talkgroup info to the system...sorry I have not been around much the last couple weeks...been in the process of moving from Central KY to Eastern KY...Now thanks again to Cable internet I am back up and running in full force! :D
