2005 Chevrolet Silverado

I plan to install an ANTENNX scanner antenna for my PRO 2096 and a DIAMOND
2M / 440 for my YAESU FT-8800. Both are magnetic mount antennas.

Does anyone here have experience in routing the antenna coax into the
truck interior? I want to place the antennas on top of the cab and
route the coax between the cab and the bed, thence into the cab interior.

I feel certain there are good locations to do accomplish this - I'm looking for
advice, lessons learned, etc either first hand or anecdotal.

You could route the antenna cable like you said and send it in the truck through the fresh air vents in the back of the cab. Just make sure to lift up the little rubber flap in the vent and run the cable through then lay the flap back down. It shouldn't leak any water. *shouldn't* Just an idea though.

Or, you could go to a radio shop and have them drill holes in it! :0 My Sport Trac was less than a week old when CComm911 took the drill to the roof! But, they do look good!

I have a 2001 chevy silverado ext cab and this is what I have done. I have a tool box in the back and I used a "L" bracket used for trunk mounting and mounted it on the outer edge of the tool box lid so when it is open it will clear the exterior of the truck. After passing the cable through the vents( and I have never had a water leaking problem) I ran it under the rear seat, under the plastic floor mouldings and then under the dask where it is held with zip ties. I don't know how the center of the dash is for the 05 silverado's, but for mine there is a plastic section of the dash (just under the ash tray and power outlets). I just pulled that out and ran the cable out through that and my scanner sits in the center on the floor. Be careful as not to break the male ends of that dash piece. It has worked great for me and doesnt use much cable at all. Hope it helps!

Silverado....

I have a 2004 Tahoe. I have a 5/8 wave two-way VHF Hi-Band mobile antenna installed on the drivers side fender using a standard L bracket. This way, you can run toe coax through the speedometer cable gromet on the firewall. No cutting/leaking or other problem with running it that way....

I finished it!

I mounted my antennx scanner antenna (Mag mount) and snaked it through the air duct (a little bit of a pain but patience will see you through).

The coax runs under the front and back seats to my PRO 2096. The scanner is mounted just above the hump in the center of the console.

Power (and a good ground) is supplied from the driver’s side fuse box.

OK, all together now....

2004 Tahoe Antenna Mounting

See the picture below. This is a NMO mount with a 1/4 wave Antenna Specialist antenna on it. I routed the coax through the gromet that the speedometer cable goes through. No problems with it so far.....NOTE: The antenna is mounted on the drivers side so I didn't have to extend the coax...Steve/KB8FAR

there is a better way of running coax without the hassle of going in vent glass . there are 3 metal cover plug's in the metal floor pan in the rear under the carpet . my 94 silverado has them and i ran my cb antenna coax through 1 and it look's good . you can't see it unless you look real hard for it . i'm running a mag mnt on my tool box also .

most newer trucks have holes already in the floor with rubber plugs just pull the carpet back and look for em I just cut through the center of em and ran my cables for hideaway strobes and antenna coax through em!

Knock Out

i have a 2000 Silverado Reg. cab behind the driver and passanger side under the truck there is a round knockout about 2.5" this is a very thin piece of metal you easly drill through it or knock it all the way out as i had to do with 4 antenna coax 6 strobe cables you will have to pull your carpet back but you have easy access inside the cab this way all my electrical i have run through the knockout in the firewall
