Here are the pictures of my console that I built custom for my truck. Although I'm only 18, I have had an interest in public safety for a while. While trying to schedule things around college, I plan on trying to join my local fire/rescue department as a trainee so that when I am out of college, it will be easier to join as a full time volunteer. I figured I might as well get an early start and this is what I ended up with.

Any one that says that us young kids are useless can have a look at that console and see not all of use are.

Where did you get that cupholder and what kind is it? I've been looking for that kind for a long time and can't seem to find it for a decent price.

First of all, thanks for all of the compliments.

Second, the question about the cupholder. It is the factory cupholder for the GMC and Chevys with the bench type seats.

Last, the antennas. They are from Walcott CB. They are both ProComm Tri-band 38" antenna kits. I used a mirror mount with just the flat L bracket. I cut a slot in my bedliner, drilled the holes in the bedposts, and mounted them straight to the metal surface of the bedpost. Not my first choice of mounting style, but overall it was what seemed easiest. I will try to get some pictures posted of the mounts so you can see exactly how they are mounted.

That is an excellent job- very nice!

I love Maglite's and have several here- you have mounted yours in a way that really looks good as well as being easily accessible. Also like the finish on yours as well.

Well done!

Regards, Commscanaus.

A very nice install. The cabinet looks very professional. What materials did you cover the wood with?
Any photo's from the build process?

The material I covered it with is automotive replacement carpet from Wal-Mart. I wanted to use thinner material like what you use for speaker boxes but I couldn't find any anywhere. Fortunately, the carpet is pretty close to my interior color so it was okay.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the build. I already had the scanners in and was ready to get it built and put in. To describe it though, I used cardboard first to make a model so I could make sure it fit. Then I used the cardboard pieces to cut the panels. The thinnest sturdy wood I could find was 3/8" but it is heavier so it stays in place. I predrilled the holes and used screws to put it together because I didn't really know how long smaller finishing nails would hold it together. Overall, I worked for 3 days from about 3-8 in the afternoon. It was definitely worth the work though. When things start to go down, I know about it at the same time the cops do.
