• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I drive a 2005 Jetta (New Style) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about setting up my radios. If you have a jetta also, let me know what you've tried.

I've got to fit...

IC-208H (Ham) w/ Remote
BCD996T
BC 350C
and a cheep @@@ CB

I'm looking at getting the remote for the 996 and then putting that and the ham radio in the trunk with the remotes up front.

Thanks.

I have the 2003 Jetta and I went with a trunk mount Spectra high power. The control head sits on top of my ashtray. It blocks the 12v lighter but I bought a triple and mounted it on the passenger side of the hump.

I also put in a Icom 208 rig is under the passenger seat and the control head is stuck to the dash. I don't use it much.

I am considering mounting a VHF Icom 121 in my dash as there's a cd holder where the top half of my double din factory radio used to be. I'll get some pics if you want.

I drive an Audi A4, which isn't too far off of your Jetta. My only radio is a Kenwood TM-D710A, which is a remote-head radio. The "main" portion of the radio is in the trunk pocket where the CD changer normally goes. My car already had a stout mounting bracket there, which I redrilled for the radio. Short piece of coax goes to a trunk-mount antenna. Hardest part was running the cable from the trunk to the control head in the cockpit, but no heavy lifting involved there.

There is plenty of room in the CD changer pocket for your radios. Oh, I had to run 6 AWG wire from the battery to the trunk to provide the ~25 amps of peak current as listed in my Kenwood's manual. I used the chart here as my guide:

for a scanner antenna you can replace your factory roof stinger with this

scroll down to bottom of page

Don't know how they work but would make for a cleaner install since you already need a cb and a ham antenna.

That Euro-stinger antenna really got my attention - until I checked the price sheet!

Anybody here actually tried one yet?

Whoo, for a second their I thought you said you hooked up your 100W Spectra to your cigerette lighter. I see you say the access was blocked to it.
