Kansas saw an increase this year in the number of people killed over the July 4th holiday. That's according to Lt. John Eichkorn with the Kansas Highway Patrol. Only one person died last year.
This year five people were killed in accidents in Kansas over the holiday. A couple from Missouri were among those who lost their lives in a traffic accident near Solomon on July 4th. Eichkorn says those deaths occurred during a seventy-eight hour reporting period. It began at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1st and ran until Midnight July 4th.
Eichkorn says this year they also conducted sixty-seven DUI arrests, 1,976 speeding tickets and 300 seat belt tickets.
