2006 Ford Five Hundred mobile install

Here is my humble install in my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The radio is a VHF Kenwood TK-790 remote head. My last vehicle was a Ford CVPI, so this car was a bit of a challenge to plan out and install.

I completely agree! Unfortunately I needed a remote head and this was the only one available to me. But hey, if you ever have a spare xtl2500, feel free to send her my way! [emoji1]

I can appreciate the Ford 500. I had one for 2 years that had several radios I installed. There were a few "colorful" words expressed on the original install and several revisions after. The pics are still up here on the boards if you need some inspiration

Looks good! I have a 790/890 dual-band. Where is the speaker? On a previous install I could not find a good spot for one and ended up sacrificing a few buttons and going with a basic control head.

The speaker is under the passenger seat, however that is temporary. The speaker isn't very effective there, however I can't seem to find a better spot.

I saw a member mount to his seat head rest. I thought that was a cool idea. Out of the way and you could hear outside of the car. Plus it's next to your ear.

I have a Montego(Mercury's version of the Five Hundred) and I feel your pain when it comes to installing radios.

In my case I didn't have any remote head radios and I didn't want to buy one just for the purpose so I wound up mounting them inside the center console, under the armrest. That location is both a benefit and a disadvantage. It's a disadvantage because I have to open the console to access my radios(2m and CB) but it's an advantage because my gear is out of sight from anyone that might want to swipe it. I mounted the speakers just barely under the driver's seat, so that they are sticking out an inch or two. I can hear them pretty well that way.

Looks nice, I am never a fan of a mic on the drivers side, definitely a higher likelihood of an open mic

I would not replace the Kenwood in my truck with Motorola.

Your install looks really good! I wish the 90 series had more memory, even 160 channels per band in dual band configuration would be nice.
