If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question involving my 2006 Impala LTZ Console Shift. I would like to mount a mobile radio nicely and discretely so it does not look whackerish. I was thinking about doing a double din setup with a mobile head and a new am/fm hd radio. If anyone has experience with this sort of install on an impala and could recommend some products that would fit well and look nice that would be great.

Thanks

A Uniden BCT15X or BCD996XT both have available accessory DIN sleves. However, considering your vehicle it may be more trouble than it's worth. I have an '08 and explored this option...

Does your LTZ have OnStar? If so, even if it's not active, that complicates things. The way GM designed the 2006-2011 Impala's with OnStar, when you install the new stereo you'd have to also purchase an aftermarket GMOS module and LAN harness. All of the warning sounds (seatbelt, open door, directional signals, mechanical) and all OnStar functions go through the stereo, and you could loose them and OnStar if you don't install those aftermarket replacements. And they're not cheap. Also you'd have to buy the aftermarket DIN kit, and the Unidens don't sit flush to the facing.

Honestly, the easiest thing for you to do probably is buy one of the above Unidens, mount it under the passenger seat, and use the BC-RH96 remote head (https://www.scannermaster.com/Uniden_Bearcat_BC_RH96_Remote_Head_p/10-691108.htm), and mount it on the center console somewhere. It's fairly descrete and works just fine. Only part that sucks is it doesn't control the power on the scanner.

It does have on-star and I am aware of the costs of the adapters. Do you know of any remote heads that can be mounted onto a din holder and then I could store the mobile somewhere else because that would alleviate the size issues. I would really like to keep it in dash and looking sharp rather than having something on the console itself.

No, the RH-BC96 cannot be DIN mounted.
