That is because the scanner is usually on 24/7 running an automatic recording and logging program. I just check it once a day to see what it found.
Are you using an external ant? I'd love to log VHF/UHF, but I don't have any external antennas up. I can here quite a bit from this location (near the highest elevation in my county) but the noise from all teh electronic devices (esp computers) in the house makes reliable scanning of VHF LO-HI especially impossible.

Same here. The closer to the house, the more noise, though I have never found the source. I tried an antenna on the roof but it was useless. I have my antennas away from the house about 100 ft. No problems there with noise.

It has been hopping yesterday and today. I worked alot of new stations on six cw during the contest.
6m cw ? Hey you're my kind of guy (if I were into guys rofl). Good deal. I've had my license for about 17 years and even though I had the capabilities, I never ran CW on VHF or above til last year. Had a lot of fun on 6m last year when I was tuning up a 2m Ringo with an LDG tuner and working em :)

I really need to get an antenna or two up. If I ever manage to, we'll have to try to work each on 6m during a band opening. band openings to Ohio from your location obviously happen pretty often!

That may be what I need to do. The back yard isn't huge, but the problem is antennas being considered an eyesore by some people - and I haven't lived here but 2.5 mos and I don't want to rock the boat just yet. Ill have to toss something up hanging from a nice tall branch of one of of the huge trees in the woods behind me. THat would help the noise too.
