24784= GUILFORDEM (Guilford Co Emergency Management).
Will go ahead and add Guilford County TGs to the database.

Allright-
I know it still needs to be cleaned up a little but I have updated the VIPER Medical Network (VMN) list in the database.
Damn my fingers are sore.
I wrote up an explanation for the description field but here it is again for those who don't read the paragraph right above the TGID list:

VMN Radios are setup with a total of 14 Zones or Banks.
The first 12 Zones or Banks are labled VMA to VML with the VM standing for Viper Medical and
The last letter being the Zone or Bank Number (ie: VMA is Viper Medical Network Zone A, VMB is Zone B and so on.)
the last 2 zones are set aside for Statewide Events Talkgroups (Alpha through Delta) and
non-trunked NPS "8Call" channels.
To make radio/scanner organization easier the VM zones # A-L are also listed below.

I will finish cleaning up the database listing tomorrow but this should do for the moment. I have to head to Zebulon tomorrow afternoon to help a novice scanner user program his new Uniden BCD996t but should be back in time to get alot more VIPER database work done.

VIPER GPS Project

I made a fairly simple file of about 20 VIPER sites to run on my GPS. I can get the lat/longs through the normal process on this site, but it's really a pain. Is there a list somewhere of the site coordinates?

If anyone's interested in collaborating, it's a 4-column Excel file that I'm saving to .csv and then converting to .gpx.

Columns are
1 - Long. (12 wide, numeric, 6 decimal places)
2 - Lat. (same as Long.)
3 - Site name & number (25 characters text)
4 - CC and alt. CC (25 characters text)

Heard some traffic on the Cane Mountain site in Alamance county this morning from some unknown talk groups. 1st one was 20384 and they were calling it "common 1" and the other was 20400 and they called it "common 2". Kinda sounded like SHP units, because they were talking about setting up on the on ramps and bridges.

20384= SHPSOCOMMON1 (NCSHP to Local Sheriff Common 1)
20400= SHPSOCOMMON2 (NCSHP to Local Sheriff Common 2)

Guilford County is not listed as a VIPER partnership. So what are the expected uses for the six new VIPER TG's in Guilford County? Would/could the VIPER TG's be patched to specific tac TG's on the GSO/GC system in MA situations? Thanks.

With Alamance going to viper sometime in September, and Burlington/Elon sharing the GSO system maybe they are trying to have some sort of inter operability by allowing Guilford to have some talk groups on the viper system.

Do understand that just because a county has had VIPER talkgroups setup in the Zone Controller does not mean that those talkgroups will have alot of usage...normally when a county is assigned TGIDs in the system they follow this general generic setup:
--One Mutual Talkgroup
--One Sheriff Talkgroup
--One Fire Talkgroup
--One EMS Talkgroup
--One Emergency Management Talkgroup
--One TAC Tactical Talkgroup.
That does NOT mean that any or all of the above will be used.
That is just the "cookie cutter" TGID setup for a county.
Once a county sets up an actual radio template and comes to an
agreement with NCSHP/VIPER then additional talkgroups can be added/customized to better fit the areas needs.
So please don't read too much into a counties talkgroups.
Just keep searchin' for new TGID activity and enjoy!

VIPER sites at Enfield

Did a little train-watching at Weldon & Enfield yesterday, and found 5 sites at Enfield on my PSR500 just searching. Some of these, I can't match to the VIPER site list:

868.8500 6038 S21 BVILLE 99% - obviously Brinkleyville...tower site has a "Space for Rent" sign, BTW
868.6875 6038 S39 TRBORO 99% - Must be Tarboro, and I think it carried some Pitt Co. traffic
868.625 6038 S35 HALFAX 99% - Halifax ? new site?
868.5125 6038 S40 ODOM 99% - can't figure this one out (only site breaking squelch in Emporia, VA)
868.4375 6038 S28 RCKYMT 99% - Looks like Nash Co. has an alias now

For what it's worth, these two were marginal in downtown South Hill, VA
868.4500 6038 S11 MANSO - Norlina? (should be only 20 miles as the crow flies)
868.9750 6038 S44 BULLOK - Durham?

Can anybody ID ODOM for me?

Manson is in western Warren County on US 1 close to the Vance County Line.
Odom is the Odom State Prison Farm in Northampton County on the Roanoke River south of Jackson, NC.
Bullock is on US 15 in northern Granville County near the VA state line.

Wow, so these guys are really on the move! (I was thinking that this was way more stuff than I could find for my GPS...)

With Virginia's STARS system, the FCC data is so useless that we just drive around searching 151-153 and 158-160 looking for P25 control channels. Then we compare them to licensed transmitter sites and do drive-by's using Signal Stalker in hopes of a confirm. (I sure am glad that VIPER likes to keep those CC's on 868....any idea when it's gonna be 853?) And man, am I jealous of the aliases that appear right on the scanner screen! If STARS does this, we are probably missing out on it because of the multi-packet control signals.

This makes me REALLY wish I'd tried search mode while up in West Virginia, although their panhandle sites appear to have a lot of overlap. Thanks for the help. I'll look forward to putting the new sites in my GPS!

Yep...with VIPER you look inbetween 867.000Mhz-868.9875Mhz and just look for one of the 4 Zone IDs. From there you can match it up to the actual site number. I hope to split up the VIPER site listings into the individual zones over the next week. I think that will help solve a lot of confusion.
As always we appreciate any verified updates/corrections.

I heard two guys chatting as they came through Greensboro this afternoon on TG# 20464. I also show a couple of radios affiliating with TG# 28832 on the Greensboro site while running unitrunker. Any ideas? Thanks, Randy
