Can you give an overview of VIPER operations for Pender? I have a good cross Reference for the VHF/UHF to Viper TGs but nothing for the additional ones that are not associated with current frequencies?

Im just curious so I can potentially update the Wiki and will update the county DB entries as well... I get extensive hits off of pender when I go to NHC area so was just interested...

Just to let everyone know that Pender County EMS will be switching to their appropraite VIPER talkgroups for dispatch and operations effective February 3 2009 at 0800. They will continue to use the existing VHF frequency for paging and alerting only, basically "one way" communications.

The Pender County Sheriff's Office and all other Law Enforcement agencies dispatched by the Pender 911 Center (operated by the Sheriff's Office) will be switching to the appropriate VIPER talkgroups effective January 10 1009 at 0800.

Pender County Fire will come sometime this summer hopefully, after the Sheriff's Office has acquired rant funding to purchase VIPER mobiles for all fire apparatus in the county. All fire department in Pender County now have a VIPER (XTS2500 I.5) portable in each fire truck and each Chief and Deputy Chief (which I happen to be) have (XTS2500 II) VIPER portables for interoperability.

Now I am just waiting for my income tax refund so I can get a GRE PSR600, or something similar to monitor everything else on VIPER and the digital groups on the NHC system.

All of the LEO talkgroups are active. The 911 Center has been simulcasting on the appropraite VIPER TGs and the conventional stuff. This goes for Law Dispatch, EMS Dispatch and Fire Dispatch. There have been many times I have used VIPER to talk to the 911 center, instead of carrying my VHF radio around, since the Holly Ridge site is less than 3 miles down the road.

Surf City PD has their own TG on VIPER and have been using it EXTENSIVELY. Sometimes it seems they think no one can hear them on their TG.

All of the TGs listed in the VIPER database are current and correct as far as I know. I have seen the programming for the EMS and LEO radios, and have the information for the Fire Supervisor and Fire Basic radios.

I've been waiting for this switch to happen, and two thirds of it is right around the corner...thank goodness. At least the County Commissioners here in Pender don't have anything to do you owning or operating VIPER, or it would quite working within 6 months....

I've been devoting more time to searching VIPER lately. I came up on TG 4784 today before heading into work (limiting my monitoring time). It was 504 calling Admin. They used police 10 codes (10-7 and 10-23) and talked about unlocking rooms and consulting a gentleman on a golf cart about tractors and where they were to park. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? I figured it might be the WNC Ag Center...but that's the only thing I've come up with so far.

A good thing to do is check the database before posting questions...4784 has been in the database for very long time....there is a feature that you can sort all talkgroups of a system into one column which makes looking up an ID easy.
Please let us know of the new talkgroups you hear.

I use firefox and when there is one I don't know, I go to the database and use the automatic search feature. I just type the id number and it takes me right to it.

No problem brother...I know there is a ton of talkgroups in the database but using the "all talkgroups in one table" trick or jthorpe's Firefox Find technique will usually help ya find what ya need...thanks for contributing and please let us know if you find something new!

Thanks for the update Marshall. Wow. The great state of Mecklenburg sure hogging all the talk group space up on Viper right??? 7 slots???? Guess that means they are basically going it on there own system in the future...

Have to keep in mind too that Char\Meck TRS is the hub of a federal regional interopt project.

Yeah, really makes a lot of sense with VIPER in place.

Whole lot of infrastructure is being duplicated.

I was up in Rockingham County today and noticed a new 400' free-standing tower near the intersection of Harrington Highway and NC-135 that is identical to the new Viper Tower in Sanford. Is this the new Eden Viper site?

Jake, are/were you BATF? My recollection is that they were 1700s, along with the FBI, USSS, USPI,
USMS, etc. 1200s were NCSBI. Or maybe it means something else

I appreciate you taking the time to try to research but that is not a valid VIPER talkgroup ID.
Probably intermod or signal interference.
But we appreciate any verified new Talkgroup IDs.

I guess that is so that after Chapel Hell looses they have a radio channel on which to whine and cry? :twisted::lol:
