I finally caught some audio of TG #48, sounds like some sort of airport operations, talking about picking up pilots with shuttle buses & so on. Also heard references to piedmont & atlantic aero, so maybe it's something at PTIA in Greensboro.

VIPER programming help

I have over 40 mobile radios I need reprogram with a new zone I have in a code plug. Which clone option will not transfer the radio ID for the VIPER system? I do not want to duplicate any radios with the same ID. Before you ask I have a system key and I have the authority to program our radios.

Randy, I think I have figured out talk group 6880. I believe it is Williamston PD. I heard them calling Martin County for 10-28's and calling the PD. Let make 100% sure first but this is a good bet, that is who it is.

Sounds like I need to make a trip to Williamston soon. Randy where are you in reference to Martin County? I am in Chowan and can hear Martin County here. Do you know what site you heard them using? Plymouth in Washington County is local to me, so is Windsor in Bertie (as far as the southern area I can hear from my house). If they come up on those sites I should be able to hear them fine from home.

I'm just south of Greensboro, a long way from Martin co. I must have just caught someone passing thru the area. It was either on the Staley or Shepard Mt site in Randolph co. Which brings me to another question. If a viper radio is programmed for zone 3, how does it react when traveling into another zone? Or is that what the roamer talkgroups are for?

I've been monitoring Brunswick Co. for the past few days.
Normal communications between deputies and C-Com are on TG45472.
Heard one deputy ask another to switch to the "control channel". TG was 17104.
TG17120 was called "special op's" by a deputy on an escort detail.
After initial dispatch on 155.520 all EMS/First Responder communications are on TG45504
Ambulance to ER is on 58544 in North Carolina.South Carolina is still on 155.340 due to no connection to the Horry Co.TRS.

I find it very strange that the controllers of the VIPER system keys would allow people with very little apparent knowledge of programming to risk the integrity of the system. Does VIPER not require proper training before releasing keys? CPS is so intricate that the slightest mis keyed option or someone doing something they are not sure of, can become a major detriment to the system. The above quote is one of several I have seen recently on here that would indicate to me that people are programming radios onto the system that have little to no idea what they are doing. Truely amazing!

I am not trying to offend those who have posted questions on here, but this is not scanner programming. Getting a wrong talk group, or option setting, call list ID, anything...... can jeopardize the safety and lives of any number of those that use the system.

Just my opinion !

On another note:

I also think the work you guys do on here is great. There are a number of you (and you know who you are) that diligently pursue the daily changes and additions to the system and other systems in your areas. The NC forums are my favorite and are the best on this site. Keep up the great work guys.

Thanks For The Help?

Yes, They sent me to a basic programming class (ONE DAY). If more people would help and not talk about I am a scanner listening post maybe more can learn on how to help like I do. You ask a question I don't complain, I answer with help or I will find an area of help. THANKS for your help?

Spoke with a Holden Beach police officer tonight about the county's transition to VIPER. Sheriff's department is almost there, but relying on a patch between UHF & 800. Holden (among other small town departments), have a rough 18 month timeline, but are very skeptical since installs are close to $5000 alone per vehicle.

He directed me to RadioReference.com and had a lot of good things to say about the people on here and the good information (even for such a wacky system like the SmartLink like what they're using). He was the radio guru for their department and made mention that he just had to change some stuff on their scanners for the Pea Landing site...I'll have to do some digging to see if it was anything major like a new LCN, and I'll submit it once if I find anything and after I confirm it.

I'm not seeing that many affiliations on T88, but that doesn't mean there aren't other channels for the Sheriff's Dept. to use. I'll keep it running over night and while I'm out during the day to see what it can log.

Anyone have a Idea what tag 912 is? They called EM-1 on the radio about a land owner who had hogs.

Hint #1: Look in the VIPER database listing under "Statewide Event Talkgroups Analog" :)
Hint #2: Look at the post right above yours typed up by GB1952. :)
I always recommend looking over the VIPER database entry as most of the time that will solve 99% of the "who is using this talkgroup?" questions :)
Happy 4th of July! :D

NCSHP revised Troop D zones?

Would anyone know if NCSHP Troop D has reorganized its zones to split Alamance and Orange counties (previously both Zone 5)? I've been hearing "D7" series units regularly, usually in Orange, though on the same analog TGID as Zone 5 (2480). Just curiosity. No functional change on the air if they did subdivide Zone 5.
