• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Installed a BC780xlt into the console of the truck. Antenna (Antenex) is through the roof & picks up nicely on all bands. Antenna pic is a little hard to see. Its not a big antenna.

Roof Mount Install

Nice install on the 08 Dodge. The antenna looks good, and the reception is probablyexcellent. I'm considering doing the same on my 06 GMC with BCT15 scanner. I'm freaking out about punching a hole in the roof. Any encouragement you can give?

I was not really into drilling either. I bit the bullet though, the antenna is not too noticable, and due to the height of the truck itself, picks up really well (even on crappy low band) Some of my reasons were:

1. Glass/window mounts suck w/reception (especially low band)- I tried it on my old truck
2. Magnet scratches up the truck. If you do want magnet though, the radio shack one is excellent. I picked up everything - even mobiles on low band 20 miles away.
3. I was gonna go w/lip mount on the hood but, I get better height with this one, and I was told you get rust issues with the paint job after a while from the metal mount.

Depends on what you heed to hear. My county is a *****, we use low band, Vhf, UHF and 800.

If you are gonna listen to a close, high powered station (Vhf, UHF) in your area - you might be able to get away with the glass mount. But if you want to hear action a decent distance away (especially low band) - go another route.

Good luck!

If you have it (your antenna) done by someone that knows what they are doing you will never have a problem. I have 14 antennas mounted on the roof of my suv and they have been there for years with no problems.

Right now I only listen to 14 radios. After the first of the year I plan to increase that some. For years I was a 911 operator and had to learn to listen to many conversations at a time. I worked 5 years in a center that could only afford 1 dispatcher a shift. to dispatch county wide Fire, Rescue, EMS, Sheriff, Police, Coast Guard Fire, State Marine Law Enforcement, and answer the phones. I got to learn real fast how to listen to a lot of stuff and pick out the inportant stuff. As for your question about pictures. I plan to have them taken by a pro as soon as I have completed the additions. I plan to send them to Monitoring Times, Pop Com, and Scanning USA to be published. the Present setup is 2 Radio Shack® Pro2054 scanners mounted at the visor above the drivers seat. Then I removed the center console that came with the vehicle and replaced it with the top of the line Troy Products® center console. that houses a New Communications Solutions, LLC® model NCS-3230 Multi-Rx controller that takes an input from 6 radios and distributes it thru 2 speakers for ease of listening. kind of like a Public Safety Communications center dispatch console. then there is a Motorola 2way for local fire coms, a Uniden 2 way for GMRS, Three Radio Shack Pro 2055 1000 ch. scanners two of which are programmed for regional public safety communications and 1 set up for NC Viper our state SHP and Interop system. a Radio shack Pro 2054 set up for Air and Rail road and misc other Radio Shack scanners with a hodgepodge of other stuff. mounted on the back side of the console is a Cobra® Bluetooth™ compatible 40 Ch. CB radio. Under the console facing the middle row seat is a Road Pro® 1500 Watt AC power inverter to power my lap top and other things as needed. The SUV is a Chevy Suburban 2500 with a 7.4 liter V8 with dual batteries under the hood stock from the factory.

Any Questions?

I don't know what's crazier, all those radios - or 1 dispatcher for an entire county!!

I thought there was a minimum staffing of 2 people with an E911 center.

What county did you work for?

14 antennas?!?!?!?!?!?! Is you crazy? LOL! The roof of your truck is going to look like Swiss cheese if those antennas are ever removed. Please, post the pics. I gotta see this. Where are all the radios? Did you take the passenger seat out to make room for them? LOL! Dude, you got it baaaaaaaaaaaaad.

I am 44 and have been serious about my hobby for 30 years... My dad got me started and was so supportive that I stayed focused on the hobby that I never woundered into drugs or drinking or smoking and I have been able to put my spare change into my hobby. one of the radios I lumped together under misc. is a 1980's Realistic Pro 2002... No I didn't take out the passenger seat (yet) The top of the line Troy Products center console holds 10 (Ten) of the radios and the New Communications Solutions controller, that leaves the 2 overhead at the visor... one on the dash and a ready to go handheld on the glove conpartment. Then about the swiss cheese. When I found this truck at the used car lot it already had 4 of the NMO bases from the former owner and that was a selling point for me. I travel all over the state and was already planning to cut all the holes I wanted to in it. this just saved me part of the trouble. The previous owner had already cut in the strobes and thou they had taken the power supply all the bulbs were still inplace. no problem I had already had 2 power supplys. but back to the swiss cheese, if I get rid of the vehicle it is dark blue and I will cover all the NMO's with black NMO caps from Tessco problem solved.

:D When are you going to post the pics? Seriously, I'd like to see it. I've got the radio bug, but not that bad. Well, not yet anyway.
