Nice. I didn't catch any MD stuff. I was shocked when I was hearing the boston accents, because when I started i was catching all the Mexicans and then eventually I was hearing TN/NC. So getting it from the NE caught me off guard. Them bastards sure talk fast too rofl.

I logged a Barnstable Co freq a few days ago I think - I don't think it was the same one you logged. When I went into the RRDB and looked at barnstable Co, I think there was a ton of 33 mhz freqs if I recall correctly.

PS: I need to ask KKN50 what in the world he is using to log his audio traffic - because he is able to produce audio logs for the things he can't identify. It'd be handy if i could do the same.

Back before they PL controlled the inputs on the dozen or so 33.860 repeaters in my county, Barnstable (and some stuff in Connecticut) would open them up every time there was a band opening.

It logs each tranmission with freq/tone/date/time and creates a separate WAV file for each that is tagged with the same info.

You can leave your scanner running 24/7 and check the logs and files when it's convenient. Has certainly made scanning the low band much easier.

And it does this in search mode (where there aren't actually any frequencies stored) ? I was going to use IDTrackerII for my PSR-500 (which I think is a great app), but i didn't think it would do that. I play around a bit with it instead of assuming things.

I'm using a PRO-197, DPD OmniX up 10 foot off of the back deck of our ranch home (think plumbing PVC as a mast stuck through where an umbrella used to go on a deck table). 50 feet of LMR 400 in between. My locatoin is at about 1200 feet (highest county elevation is a little over 1300).

Lucky you. I'm an apartment dweller but I remember the old days when I lived at home. I didn't work in the summer (still in school), so I'd go out in the backyard and rig up a 30-foot temporary mast using the old swingset for stability. The 10M ham repeaters were coming in and I heard a convoy on the move on 36 MHz once. Oh yea and then there was the time I heard the Hardees drive-thru from like 1.75 miles away. Another time I had a 5-ft whip attached to the scanner on my bike. Imagine my surprise when I heard my first scanner-skip (not expecting it). It was a 10M repeater identifying itself as being all the way out in Washington State and I was hearing it on my bike in Maryland. What a thrill. Oh, how I miss those days sometimes. I can't wait until I have my own home and I can put whatever I want up in the yard or on the roof. Time will tell... Thanks for the input.

I know where you're coming from. Incidentally, where I live now I'm not at liberty to put up a tower or any kind of structure that could be seen by the masses and be determined an eyesore. I agree though - I'm fortunate enough to be at a high elevation and thus be able to still have some decent scanner reception without having to put something up 50 feet in the air. I'd still like to though But I can sympathize with your situation, although to a lesser extent.

I can remember when I first got into amateur radio back in the early 90s, I think the current solar cycle at that time was at its peak. I'd wake up in the morning at 5:00/5:30 am and there'd always be DX coming in on 10 meters from Germany and other places. Back then I wasn't listening to scanners for some odd reason, or I'm sure I would have heard a lot of skip back during hte cycle's peak.

Good news, if you can hold out a few years, the current solar cycle is on its way up and will reach its peak in a few years. So the skip that we all hear is going to become more frequent, stronger, and from more varied places. I can't wait

My guess it is Sidney, Ne Volunteer Fire Dept. Via Cheyenne County, Nebraska 911.

I cannot vouch for this one, since I cannot find a listing for Sidney/Cheyenne County, Ne. But 39.98 is used extensively here in Nebraska to tone out Vol. Fire Depts.
