I hope that it isn't overcast. As usual, I'll be watching what I can from my driveway.

I saw one of the Thunderbirds fly by and land about 2:15.

As in the past, it looks like the Air Boss is on 119.7.

I just returned from a local parking lot watching the T-Birds practice. Those of you going on base, remember sunscreen and water!

Does anyone know why there is some type of external tank or something under just one of the Thunderbird aircraft?

woodyrr,
Looks like an external fuel tank. I did not even notice it yesterday. Looked at photos today and there it was.

It's a wierd deal - only one if the planes having one. I saw a documentary about the Thunderbirds. Everything was about extreme precision, uniformity and fanatical attention to detail. The pilots walk to the planes at the same time, they climb the ladders at the same time, they put on their helmets at the same time - for all I know, they blink at the same time. After all that, they taxi out at the same time only to have a big honkin' tank dangling under only one of the planes. There must be a pretty interesting story behind that.

Thunderbird 4

A/C is also a 2 seat. This A/C is probably one of the spare A/C, Either No. 7 or 8 and the tank is probably a travel pod.

Thanks for the two seater tip.

I shot this photo as they were scouting landmarks Thursday. Number 4 does not have the larger canopy that was evident on the number 4 of Friday and Saturday. I do think that it is funny that the plane with the tank did have "4" printed on the engine intake. I don't have any side views of the Diamond taken on Thursday to see if Thursday's "4" had a "4' on it.

I sure am glad that I'm not the crew chief responsible for the original number 4 he's probably cleaning that bird with a single bristle toothbrush this week.
