• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone here install a remote-mount mobile in 2011-2021 Grand Cherokee or similar? I'm looking to put an XG-75M in my 2021 Grand Cherokee and let me tell you, there really isn't any room for anything in this vehicle. I could stick the remote head on the dashboard I guess. I had pondered tucking it into the driver's side corner of the dash so when sitting in the driver's seat it would be to my left. But I'd really rather have it down on the console where I'm used to radios being mounted.

Anyway, just looking for ideas and to see if anyone has been down this road with this particular platform of vehicle.

I assume that your battery is under the front passenger seat, correct? I would consider mounting the Control head on either side of the console and the radio under driver's seat. If the battery is under the passenger seat, at least that will be convenient, but don't ground the radio/control head to the battery. The seat belt or seat anchor points are excellent chassis grounding points.

I haven’t, but I’ve seen examples where mounts by RAM and LIDO were in use.
The LIDO mount came in CLUTCH. It's not my favorite way to mount a commercial radio but in this vehicle platform, your options are very limited.

Excellent suggestion I never would have known about otherwise. I owe ya one.

My GC had a RAM mount for multiple heads. When I got it a single head was in the cubby in front of the shifter. XTL deck under seat.

I considered the cubby but the Harris CH-721 barely fit without interfering with the shifter. Plus I didn't want to lose the functionality of the cubby. I like the way this LIDO mount works and how well it's built. The perfectionist in me isn't completely happy with the looks of it, but like I said options are limited in this vehicle. It's a very nice product, adapted very easily to the CH-721 and will absolutely work.

Don’t know how rough-ride may affect, but in big truck would have added “a stand” to keep it more rigid against vertical motions. Some wood with foam atop and Sorbothane on dash. (Weight of device holds this in place).

One can crank RAM fairly hard, but 3-point eventually wins the day in my experience. Tire pressure also contributes. Across a rough lot holding my 8” GPS against movement was SOP. (Fingers on dash and using thumb as brace).

FWIW, I think it looks good.

So far so good. Been over the railroad tracks a few times, hit some big bumps and it's pretty solid. I cranked that thing down pretty good, and the control head is surprisingly light. We will see how it holds up.
