Re-banding

Indeed rebanding has started in the Western half. Presently 100 sites are scheduled. All radios in those areas have been touched. Wes, your P25 programming includes ONLY RB channels, the 4.1 system should contain both (a minimum of 64 control channels, 128 preferably)

In the eastern half, rebanding AND P25 will occur at the same time, hence no need for the old channel plan in the P25 system control channel list.

Cool! Good to know, since I monitor sites in the eastern half!
Do you have a timeline for when the P25/Rebanding will occur?

Now that we've established rebanding is occuring, please make sure to submit the sites that reband:

Submit Data to RadioReference

Let's use this as a chance to reconfirm the primary/alternate control channels across the state. Unitrunker & Trunk88 are very helpful in not only getting important details from a specific site, but also any site neighbors on the network.

Posting about a rebanded site is OK in the thread, but please make sure it's done through the submission engine so we can track accordingly.

I second Trumpetman's post above. The only way to keep the database accurate for everyone is for folks to submit verified data.
The Riverbend site is now listed as rebanded with updated CC info thanks to a submission.
THANK YOU in advance for helping to keep YOUR (and everyones) VIPER info updated!
Happy Monitoring

Curious. Why isn't rebanding and P25 being programmed at the same time in the west?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.2; en-us; SCH-I535 Build/JZO54K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

Probably because the EFJ's havent had the P25 system programmed in yet. My vendor says they're working on them as we speak

Rebanding vs P25

Pboy, if you stop and think about it for a minute, we cant convert the system to P25 until all the radios have a P25 codeplug in them, however we can move forward with performing the re-banding of the infrastructure once we know that the control channel lists for radios in a specific area contain the rebanded channel plan. The vast majority of radios in the west HAVE had a P25 codeplug added with some exceptions. EFJ is still working on theirs and low tier radios (XTL1500/XTS1500) which are only able to function on 4.1 OR P25 and not both cannot have the new template loaded until closer to the cutover to P25.

As for the user that asked when. We are targeting the end of 2013 for completion of subscriber unit programming in the east and P25 site conversion to start within 30 days of that completion date. The duration is still TBD as we are hoping to use the "real time" data from the RB retune to help gauge how long it will take to do all the sites.

Keep in mind that what we are doing in NC has never been done before....no active system with as many sites has converted the infrastructure from one technology to another while continuing to operate so there are some things still to be worked out.

Thank you for the clarification Mike.

Sounded like all was up to speed.

Did not know there were west radios lacking the P25 addition.

RB Upgrade

No problem. One thing that might help all of you all is that as of this first pass, there are to be 100 sites of the 201 that will be RB'd and indeed all are slated to shift down 15 meg unless there is an interference issue that arises that might force a specific frequency to change.

How many VIPER sites are in Wake County?

Gathered it to be just two. Wake County's simulcast and VIPER's Fuquay Varina. At one time Wake Forest was a separate 3rd site, but was integrated into the simulcast.

However, VIPER project newsletters have been listing Wake Forest. The rebanding map included in the latest shows three locations.

It would affect total count of active sites.

Thanks for everyones input and updates on the rebanding process. I know the database has a standard format for indentifying any updates to the sites and talkgroups by showing them highlighted in green or yellow. I am wondering if we can have a "rebanded" indicator for each site of some kind that can remain after the highlighting goes away. With so many sites in this system, it is going to be difficult to keep up with which ones have changed without a visable indicator. I know we can look at the frequencies and tell but an indicator would make it a lot easier. Maybe adding a column that shows a "R" out beside the site ID. This would also allow us to sort the sites based on wether or not they have been rebanded.......

Just a thought.......

Wes,

Should be pretty easy to determine. All control channels are in the 867-868 MHz range in the system currently. When rebanded, the sites will have control channels in the 852-853 MHz range. We don't have to worry about sites all over the spectrum, such is the case with Palmetto 800.

Just program both into your scanner. That's what I do, so that no matter what I can track the system both before and after rebanding with no sweat.

Then as I discover the changes I remove the old NPSPAC frequencies to trim things down to size.

P25/RB East

Reprograming of radios is set to be completed by the End of 2013

RB system retune and P25 upgrade should begin in early 2014

Duration of how long that process will take is TBD

I would start looking for the RB frequencies in the East mid January 2014
