Here is my attempt...
I used radio mounts and lighting panels that fit a standard Jotto desk. I used rack rails from Guitar Center as the side supports.

All I did to install was carefully pull the vertical silver accents away from the dash and remove the 4 screws from the lower storage box.

To mount the rails I bought 2.5in corner braces and cut 1 side down to 1.5in and redrilled a hole.

I then used the top screw holes in the dash from the plastic box I removed to secure to the dash.

To run the wires, I used the large round firewall grommet on the passenger side of the truck.

At the top of the grommet is a rubber bubble if you cut the bubble it gives you an easy access for the wires to pass through.
This grommet gives you easy access to the aux fuse panel on the passenger side kick panel.

Any questions email me...

Creative solution - not a bad start at all! Show us your antennas too!

You might want to take a look at my thread in the install forum for some more ideas.

Nice install but do you like those small Radio Shack speakers? I bought one for my scanner and it just plain sucks. Too tinny sounding and makes the radio sound like its down in a metal barrel. Got rid of that crap and bought an awesome MFJ speaker.

The unpowered ones sound pretty bad, but I used one of the amplified ones (just takes a 12v input at like 1 amp) in my old Explorer running to a Yaesu dual-bander and it worked pretty well.

I'm putting an Astro Spectra into my new truck, though (also a 2012 F150, thus how i found this thread), and that's gonna get a Moto speaker.
