High pass filters for low VHF

That is a good idea, never thought of doing that.

Hi Sam et al,

Here in Europe Short Wave signals can be terribly strong. Radio Romania and a few others were popping up across low VHF so I went looking for a good quality high pass filter and found Dale Parfitt at PAR Electronics in NC PAR Electronics | Filters for the commercial 2 way market, MATV, FM broadcast, laboratory, marine industry, amateur radio, scanner and short wave listening enthusiasts

Dale put me together a filter that has cured the problem - with low insertion loss and high null on signals below 30 mhz. It cost $109 but is a quality design and build.

Radiokomunikaèní a mìøicí technika, antény, kabely, GPS navigace - DDAmtek

This is Czech made and costs $17 but shows some attenuation between say 30 and 35 mhz.

Hope this is of interest to anyone else who might have the same or similar problem.

^Nice logs!

I was listening to the freeband today, heard plenty of stations from Ireland/UK above US FCC/CEPT midband channel 40 (27.405) and on the UKFM 27/81 CB allocation (specifically 27.78125 (UK40 ch19) and 27.97125 (UK40 ch38).

I'm betting some of the Spanish language signals you logged today weren't from the US, although its possible some were.

8:10pm eastern time, the band is wide open to South America right now...

Living in South Texas, I can speak the local lingo and recognize Mexican accents. I depend on other people to listen to my audio files to identify the accents of unknowns - I can not. If you know someone who could listen to the 33.425 possible Cuba files and identify them let me know and I will upload.

Hi Scan XO,

unfortunately there isnt that much stuff to be heard in western Europe across low VHF - I will try to get some info together for you guys.

Stick 33.5 into your memories with a PL of 151.4. There are what is believed to be Moroccan Police on that frequency that seem to get out very well. try around midday east coast US. the speak a mixture of french arabic and tamazight - often giving lots of phonetics.

You might run into Portuguese traffic across 33 mhz. Turkish across 34 12.5 khz steps.And the easiest one French roads services on 35- 36 mhz - 12.5 khz steps.

I'll see what other info I can come up with.
