I'm hoping to have this vehicle in less than a month. Just gotta wait for it to be built. This will be a POV but for the record, I am a LEO/EMT. Color will be Mocha Steel Metallic, as seen below. This isn't a PPV but you get the idea...

Here are the options I've already picked out...

1) Remote start
2) Dual batteries
3) Rubber floors
4) Spotlight delete
5) Locking rear differential
6) Dealer-installed towing package (hitch, wiring, etc.)
7) Center seat/fold-down center console
8) Full-length Silverado center console (getting a good deal on it...will choose between it or the fold-down console)

And here are the upgrades I'm preparing for...

1) DL3 power folding mirror conversion-my garage is fairly narrow and I park two cars in it, so I need power folding mirrors with a vehicle as wide as the Tahoe
2) PlastixPlus Center Console. If I find that the other two consoles don't have enough storage or flexibility, this is the console I'd probably go with. It looks very sleek and has a large storage area.

3) Plastix Plus Poly Vault storage drawer(s). I need at least one locking drawer that will hold a rifle. Don't really want to lose the ability to put the occasional lawn mower or similar large item in the back so I may stick with only one drawer.

4) Aftermarket stereo w/USB and Bluetooth streaming audio. Currently looking at Alpine units. I don't have much of an issue with the factory stereo but it only has a 3.5mm AUX input. I want the ability to control the iPod remotely, so USB it is.
5) Digital scanner. Haven't settled on a model, antenna, or anything yet.
6) CB radio. Haven't settled on a radio or an antenna. Want to keep it as stealth as practical.
7) Whelen 3SRCCDCR 3" round red/white LED compartment light. Want to at least have one above the driver/passenger seating area. Maybe more, depending on how bright they are.
8) LED compartment lighting in rear cargo area, possibly red/white...dunno yet.
9) HLFs, TLFs, and HAW LEDs. May also do some amber or white LEDs to the rear for better roadside warning.

That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to offer suggestions. I'll post lots of photos as the project progresses.

Thanks for the support. I'm looking forward to getting it and starting with the upgrades.

One thing maybe y'all could help me with... I see that many of the members here put ham radios in their vehicles. What exactly are these used for? I've always enjoyed scanners and public safety radios but I'm not 100% clear on how mobile ham radios are used.

Mobile ham radios are just used to talk on.They could have HF freqs,6 meters,2 meters and/or 440 MHz.

Yeah, I figured that. LOL. What is talked about though? What's the utility (or is it just recreation)? I've always been a fan of CB because you can communicate with other motorists ahead (yes, mostly truckers) to find out about road conditions, traffic delays, etc. How does ham fit in?

I see two slots in the console. Suggestion - One for a dual band mobile radio - the other for a scanner. Use the scanner to keep up with the ham bands ( disaster ) - aircraft..ect..ect.

A dark blue color, the one you have is fine - But I like the dark blue color. LED light bar on top, with alley and takedown lights.

Add a brush guard on the front. A brush guard helps protect the front end, and saves in cost and repair... in some front end collisions

Inside = A dual band VHF/UHF mobile radio system ( I Prefer Vertex ) and quite possibly a VHF mobile low band radio ( Dual band radios save space , and you can monitor two bands = VHF and UHF.. in one scan bank, instead of listening to two radios ).

Flashlight mounted on the inside, with charger - Quite possibly a Streamlight "Stinger" ( I am not a Maglight Fan )

Outside mounted floodlight near the drivers door.

The darkest of tinting on the far back glass, and far back side windows, so the poly boxs and gear bags do not get exposed to extreme sunlight, and prevents fading of gear bags and poly boxs, helps decrease inside cargo temperatures.

Ahhhhh - :) Just dreaming. ;)
.

I like these. Perfect for storing gear and sensitive items. You can still place some gear bags or other necessities on top the poly boxs, and it will not look cluttered.

The rubber/plastic mats / floors in the front is a plus plus - and easier to clean. A "Beefed up" electrical system helps in cold weather

What do you mean? I will wind up paying about $32,000.

Police package is $30,000, as I understand for agencys. If a State gets the truck cheaper from Chevrolet on a large purchase, and sells it to other agencys inside the state - what is the total costs after the state sells it.

Example. Tennessee buys 250 Tahoes from Chevrolet at $27,000. A large purchase - so they got a break, and the state will come back for more purchases - so they cut a "State" a good deal. They keep some for themselves, and dedicate a portion of them to sale. An agency inside of Tennessee can buy the trucks off of the state, on a "State Bid". Tennessee sales two Tahoes to "anytown" police department for $32,000 dollars - making a $5,000 profit off of the trucks.

It happens occasionally around the country. Agencys - County and City ; purchase their vehicles off of "State Bid", rather than go direct to the factory.

Well am not sure if this is off-topic or not,but ham radio can be used to talk about anything.Only vugular and inappropriate stuff is not allowed, ham radio is a hobby and a service.

Right, I get that. I guess I'm just wondering if it'd be something useful enough to me while traveling that I'd want to get the license and the equipment.

As far as radios licensing - you should be able to use the FCC license for your fire dept / county, municipal agency. An agency usually gets far more mobiles and portables on their licenses than they use. Rural areas, in my research for example, get 250 portables on their license, and 100 to 150 mobiles....Per frequency. More than they use, so legally, you should be covered, AS LONG as your Fire Chief has no problem with it. Or, to a minimum, get written permission from your 9-1-1 director, Public Safety Director..Whomever they are. You are a LEO, so for the Law Enforement freqs, the chief/sheriff.. most likely will sign off on you having the radio freqs in your vehicle. That would be no differrent than him issuing you a portable radio to take home - IF you already do not. Do you still do LEO work full time?
----------------------------------------------------
Just a suggestion for your radios :

Land Mobile Radio | Vertex Standard | VX-5500

" Multi-Configurations For Dual-Band Capability
One VX-5500 Control Head and two RF Decks on different bands may be networked for dual-band operation. Low Band, VHF or UHF radios may be combined to meet complex communications requirements for multi-agency operations. "

http://www.vertexstandard.com/lmr/Portables/VX-920 "512 Channels and 32 Groups or 48 Channels and 3 Groups "

Pricing wise - I believe Vertex is the most competitive on the market, and provides extra features that competitor land mobile radios..DO not.

------------------------------------------

And if you need to crossband with your portable - Example = Talk on VHF with a UHF portable radio, here is a suggestion = Land Mobile Radio | Vertex Standard | VXR-1000.

I know you may not be able to do this all at once financially - but Vertex comms are a great investment.

A little off topic..Yes.

Public Safety radios are that - Public Safety radios to fill a task within public safety, and depending on frequencys for a particular agency, one could use a Public Safety Land Mobile Radio.... to communicate on a "Ham Radio Band", within the limits of the law.
