here's my simple install.
Uniden 436HP (With the GPS and trickle charge mods.)
Proclip mount
Ram arm and finger grip
NMO in center of the roof
Laird spring loaded scanner antenna
Looks good. I just finished an installation in my Toyota for my 2M/70cm radio. I installed an second NMO mount for an as yet to be determined future radio of some sort. Maybe I need a scanner.
I had a mount on my tailgate that worked for a while but I got sick of it and messaged my buddy who owns a radio shop and had him install it. 100 times better.
I just got this antenna last week. The original was the laird with the spring loaded base. This new one has much better reception than the laird. And the + is that it's nice and short and can go through the carwash and garages without having to be removed. Also it doesn't say VHF on it but I can confirm that it rx VHF.
You’re just using it on a scanner so it should rx most bands fine. Fringe reception will be limited because it’s so small, especially VHF or lower, but it sounds like it’s picking up what you desire so it should be fine.

Yeah I have the GPS mod on my 436HP so I only scan 5-10 at all times and it works perfect. Although when I do bump out the range it gets stuff pretty good also. So It's good for me at this point.
