• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Matt when you get those in I'd like to see a SWR curve for like 146, 147MHz or so just out of curiosity if possible.

I will.

I just received two EMWave 1/4 wave VHF whips I'm trying out. I put them on the analyzer yesterday but didn't save the traces. I'll try to do that tomorrow. The EM Wave with the spring at the base looked really good. Less than 2.0:1 SWR across the VHF spectrum from 144 to 174MHz. Nice flat low SWR right in the middle. I'm going to try it out for a few weeks after using Larsen antennas for 30 years. They are a bit more expensive, so we'll see. I'll probably stick with the Larsen antennas at work based on past performance and price.

Plus, the all black EM Wave antenna looked really good on the roof of my wife's dark cherry red truck.

It looks like I will be using this write up this year when my truck is replaced with a 2021, though I don't think I will have the center console. The power will be very easy to run as you have shown.

Other option, if you want to go nuts, is get a 0.750" chassis punch. You can get them from places like McMaster-Carr and they do a really nice job.
I've used the chassis punch when doing trunk lid mounts. Worked great. I think mine is a Greenlee brand.. It also worked well when I've had to make up some "pie tin" temporary mounts.

Greenlee #730 Radio Chassis Punch
(various sizes)

FYI, these are an exact-size cut. More ordinary punches are oversized slightly.

Found the two I wanted (used) on eBay.

Google for, “instructions/how to sharpen”, sheet originally enclosed.

Pilot hole required. Access to both sides of the panel also required for procedure.
