Southeast Ohio here. I was monitoring the 33 MHz fire channels all afternoon and heard nothing.
Whatever is happening out there isn't coming my direction!

There was another opening Sunday evening. Not as strong as Saturday but did get some from Oklahoma HP on 44.700.

Anyone else ever get key-ups on 72.8000 with no tone? It's listed CSQ as a California Highway Patrol freq. I've been hearing it occasionally for over a year or so.

Almost all are very low power in-building GPS clock systems or RF links from a control point to a hilltop base station on another frequency. Are you sure you aren't receiving some type of image frequency?

If the scanner has an IF of 10.6 MHz that would be a 2nd harmonic of 51.60 which is in the 6 meter ham band.
